Interesting piece in this month's Cricketer about Dan Christian.
He won't be used as the overseas player in the Championship (as has been mooted as a possibility if Notts were unable to get Pattinson back) because he will be captaining the Australian Indigenous team in a training camp and in some practice matches ahead of their tour of the UK in 2018. Next year is the 150th anniversary of the first Aboriginal tourist team-the first Australian tourist team of any kind. Frankly, the news that Christian had Aboriginal heritage was news to me.

Christian is well known to be of indigenous Aboriginal ancestry, and captained the indigenous team as long ago as 2009. |

Century off 50 balls tonight with 6 x 6s.
Takes him to 981 runs for the season over the three comps. You remind me of a Yorks supporter I met a few years ago at Tunbridge Wells. Craig White walked to the wicket and I said to the Yorkie sitting next to me that I thought he was a really good player. "No, he's dire," the Yorkie told me. "Last time he played against Kent he got a magnificent 160," I said. "Aye," said Yorkie. "But he got nowt in second innings." |

Keep quoting stats mate, one very good innings in each comp is not great. Stats make Ballance look fantastic, and yet he comes up against a good attack and gets found out. He is a decent cricketer, but tends to score heavily against average / poor attacks.

I was actually trying to inject some much needed humour into this direly dour thread with the "aye, but he got nowt in second innings" story. But it clearly went right over your head. But it's good to see as he appropaches his 1000 for the season that you have now upgraded him from "dire" to "decent". Your opinions are as inconsistent as Riki's form...(that's another attempt at a joke, btw!) Last edited by WeAreKent : 22nd July 2017 at 08:47. |

![]() I didn't say he was dire, I said he had been dire this season, which I then realised was a tad harsh but I stand by the fact that a few very good knocks, does not a summer make. Consistency is such a rare thing..... Anyway, enough of this, how are Kent getting on the season?

I don't want to rub it in,Ricky (well only a little bit) - but Rob Key on Sky tonight has just described Hales and your mate Riki as "the best opening pair in the Blast, possibly in T20 cricket anywhere in the world..."
I'm not sure I entirely agree with him and I could swear that last week he said something very similar about Denly and Bell-Drummond. But I thought you'd like to know! |

If he doesn't return, that will mean that Notts will have lost James Taylor,Lumb, Smith, Brendon Taylor and Read in little over a year. That's some hole in the batting line-up. Taking into account Hales international/T20 commitments, that would leave only Mullaney, Patel and Wessels of any experience, backed up by Libby and Root. Gulp!

There's little doubt that we're in trouble in Division One next season unless Moores and co recruit some batting talent. Jake Libby worries me, he just makes batting and scoring runs look so difficult. Tom Moores has the ability to bat in the top six.
I would be looking to try and prise Colin Ingram away from Glamorgan if there was a chance. Warwickshire have already been readying their side for next season, as have Yorkshire with Kohler-Cadmore. I wonder what Notts have been doing? |

Root deserves a chance but we will almost certainly need to bring in 2 players in the winter to cover the losses. Who? I have no idea.

I suspect we'll have to go down the same route as other counties and try to sign South Africans who are on the fringe of their test squad as Kolpaks. There doesn't seem much alternative. Maybe Duminy/Cook?
