County cricketers playing overseas this winter

Obviously the England boys are busy in Australia and the likes of Ravi Bopara and Owais Shah are in South Africa but there are a large number of county pro's currently in Zimbabwe playing cricket.

The following are all playing in Zimbabwe:

Paul Horton
Charlie Shreck
Nick Compton
Paul Franks
Gareth Cross
Tony Palladino
Neil Carter
Ryan Ten Doeschate
Riki Wessels

I am a little surprised since I thought Zimbabwe was a place the foreign office would like you to avoid visiting.

Gary Ballance is also playing in Zimbabwe - he started well with three centuries in first class and one-day games, but is struggling a little when it comes to T20.

I think cricket is embracing Zimbabwe at the moment. A lot of the players who were exiled during the dark days seem to be returning (cf Grant Flower as coach) or considering returning (Ervine).

As far as the Hampshire contingent is concerned...

Michael Lumb's going to play in the Ozzie Big Bash
Jimmy Adams in the NZ T20 competition (after Lions duty)
Michael Bates & James Haggarty playing grade cricket in Western Oz and Benny Howell in Melbourne
Sean Ervine back in Zim
Corky's been playing Legends Cricket in Barbados

Oh - and all Hampshire & Somerset taking part in the WI T20 competition in January.

Adil Rashid has been signed to play for South Australia in the Big Bash. Fantastic news for Rashid, probably down to the Lehmann influence.

Why did he only bowl one over, I wonder? He bowled the 8th, seems strange he wasn't allowed to continue.

Jimmy Adams could have a second crack at Champions League as NZ Aces won their competition.

This is a pretty old thread, but still relevant.

Steven Croft and James Foster made their debuts for Northern Districts yesterday, both playing well in a comfortable win.

A number of players playing in Zimbabwe again, including:

Mark Pettini
Dan Hodgson
Moeen Ali
Sean Ervine
Jaik Mickleburgh
