Ten Doeschate doesn't play for Holland any more, hasn't since the last World Cup.

Interesting article in the Cricketer about Bilal Shafayat.

He has played First Class cricket for Habib Bank during the winter, scoring 201 and 145 for them.

He's still only 30 - where did his county career go wrong?

Glad to hear he is still playing.

Hi was a top bloke at Notts, always had time to say hello when you saw him around the ground. Didn't quite hit the levels that notts needed unfortunately.

On another note does anyone think that cook should be playing domestic 4 day cricket somewhere to get his form going before summer. I have been following some of the SA domestic cricket and surely playing for someone like cape cobras would not only give him some valuable batting time but it would be great preparation for the tour later in the year!

Agreed, he was very well liked and I really was pulling for him towards the end to reach the levels required to hold down a regular place, but he just couldn't do it. A real shame, good to know he is still involved in the sport.

Pet - He played for WI Cavs last season along with Afzaal, Akhil Patel, Gemaal Hussain, Saqlain (who took 97 wickets last season!!!). Shame he just didn't cut it at the top level.

I thought that when it was decided he wouldn't go to the World Cup. Cook will be playing a bit of cricket in Dubai in March though: http://www.espncricinfo.com/mcc/cont...ry/822971.html, but he will only have played the 6 ODIs and the warm up in Sri Lanka since early September, i.e. about 6 1/2 months.

I have seen that he is representing the MCC but I think it may be for a couple of matches, he has certainly had enough time to play either Australian or south African 4 day domestic.

I dont get it with some England/English players (including KP), there is the chance to get form and prove yourself but there seems to be a tendency to hide behind the central contract and too much cricket excuses.

Would have been great to see either cook or kp getting loads of runs throughout the winter with the aim of getting back into the England squad better and more confident players (cook mainly there)

Saqlain only took 18 wickets for WI Cavs in the Notts Prem last season, as far as I can work out. Maybe played for someone else as well?

Pakistan's T20 Super League - Doha between Feb 4-24.

Bopara
Bresnan
Wright
Jordan
Dernbach
Pietersen
Panesar

It's beginning to look like the England rejects team.

This above shouldn't be here. They are not playing overseas, just in the mix to be selected to play overseas.

Lord Taverners XI to Antigua 12-16 October
Andy Caddick, Charlie Dale, Chris Nash, Gus Mackay, Harry Judd, Jonnie Irwin, Luke Wright, Mark Chapman, Martyn Ball, Mike Gatting, Nick Hancock, Paul Prichard, Ryan ten Doeschate, Jade Dernbach.

England rest Anderson from T20is but are quite happy for him to play in an overseas domestic tournament.

I'm sure Lancashire will be happy.

He has been dropped from ODIs with the excuse that the selectors are resting him to keep him fresh for Tests. However the ECB are happy to let him go.

Previously he wanted to play in the IPL so he could get chosen for 20/20s again. The IPL franchises didn't want him at the price he was going for. I doubt if he would have been chosen for $50,000. This time I don't think that it's about getting into the 20/20 squad. It's just to make up for the money he is missing from not playing in the ODIs.

It's in February so Lancs are not bothered.

Think Bell might be there too.
Lots of England rejects.

It still seems hypocritical though that the players cannot play for their counties yet are allowed to play in T20 winter tournaments.

Central contracts were supposed to protect players from too much cricket.
