So not content with Doshi, Schofield and Salisbury, Surrey sign Harbhajan. It's a fast bowler they need, the twonks, not another spinner

That does seem an odd choice to me. You could argue that Lancs have a more than adequate spinner in Keedy but signed Murali again when a batsman could have been useful!

It seems an odd choice to me as well. From Harbhajan's point of view I guess he will be glad to be around in case the selectors need to turn to him after all.

Interesting article on Chris Schofield in the Times today. It must have been hard to be playing all over the country for different teams.

I'm glad the media are showing some interest in Schofield. I tried to keep up with his activities since leaving Lancs. I started this thread on the original board - and I think it continued on the defunct .net board but unfortunately that is now inaccessible. Of course our only reference points were minor county reports and scoreboards, and Maty seemed to know a bit about his performances for Derbyshire 2nds. It's good to have the background from Schofield himself.

Nayan Doshi has terminated his own contract, saying he wasn't getting enough chances.

http://www.surreycricket.com/news/su...y,5688,NS.html

He might have got more chances if he averaged better than 54 when he did play.

Bit of a strange move really. I'd be surprised if he finds another county.

So would I. Most counties have a young spinner or two, who they'd back ahead of Doshi. Maybe find a place at Leics, succeeding the other 20/20 specialist Snape.

have Hampshire got any one in line to take over from Udal? I'd have thought he would be a decent signing for your lot

Arrgghhh! I think I'd cry if we signed Doshi!

Greg Lamb could probably do a stop-gap job for a year or two before the 17 year olds Liam Dawson and Chris Morgan get their chances. Dawson especially is highly rated.

Doshi was always better the shorter the game. He wasn't up to much in the batting or fielding departments either so he'll be no great loss. I too am surprised that he terminated his own contract, as like the rest of you, I can't see another county snapping him up.

The Schofield resurgence claims another victim...

The thing is, Schofield hasn't been bowling very well at all in the four day game, and - perhaps more damning - Doshi has bowled more in the CC than any other Surrey bowler. So the 'hasn't been given enough chances' argument doesn't really stand up.

I see Christopher Jordan is playing.

I gather he can bowl very fast for his age?

Anyone know why Ramp's isn't playing at the moment. Is he injured?

He's being rested, according to this.

PS. You must watch Eoin Morgan's falling over flick

Who should be relased?

Doshi has already left but I reckon the following should also be released:

Akram
Azhar
Brown
Salisbury
Ormond
Nicholson (with one overseas player it has to be Harbhajan after 37 wickets in 6 games!)

as well as temporary overseas players Magoffin and Mortaza Hussain.

I think it is crucial for Surrey's long-term success that they manage to keep hold of younger players such as Clarke, Hamilton-Brown, Murtagh and Dernbach.

What Surrey need this winter is two or three experienced seamers to replace Akram, Nicholson and Ormond. Meaker has been playing for England U19 so maybe one of the three but the other two are likely to have to be signed from other counties or be Kolpaks.

On a seperate note is there a limit on the number of overseas player who can appear for a county in one season?

Azhar
Nicholson
Harbhajan
Magoffin
Mortaza Hussain

I make that 5 different overseas players. I thought you were only allowed a maximum of four in the season! If so Surrey points from this match shouldn't count.
