Just thought I'd start one.

nice. Were you on the old board SBTS?

I quietly fancy our chances in all competitions next summer. The wicket keeper spot might be a problem if Prior gets called up for England but hopefully we can adjust the side a bit to make up for it, should we have to

that was good timing then, I bet you were wondering what all the fuss was about. Do you live in Sussex?

Indeed, read about the forum in AOC magazine and joined up. Glad you all moved rather than letting the forum die.

I live about 10 minutes walk from the County Ground in Poets Corner, Hove and have been a member at Sussex for a few years now.
Have just started playing with Bramber & Beeding CC.

You?

I'm from Horsham, pretty gutted that we aren't getting any county cricket here this summer to be honest. Politics, money and all that jazz unfortunately. Do you think we can do as well this season?

Don't see why not, we've still got the players to do well. Would be nice to see us improve a little bit with the bat this season (Goodwin, Hoppo, Monty etc.) to match the bowling.
I'm expecting Prior to really blossom this year with the bat as he showed some good promise in 1-day/20-20 last year and was a joy to watch at times.
He should have an England call-up in mind.

I see Sussex have made a financial loss again this year. I do sympathise, but I'm not sure why they think that moving to a new ground would solve their problems - I'm not sure many more would turn out for county games even if the capacity was massive. Unless, of course, they are hoping Brighton Council will do the same as Cardiff and give them a sub... given what Brighton did to its football team I don't think that's very likely.

Is Ollie Rayner still in the squad or has he been released. I see he is still there on the website.

He should still be there, he was in a team that played Essex/Warks (can't remember which) in a friendly last week. Why would he leave?

Someone thought he had left. Well that has cleared that up. So you will have Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed, Rayner and Tom Smith and Mark Davis?

The loss was just over half that of last year though. They don't want to move to a new ground, they want planning permission to develop the existing ground, they are threatening to move if the council don't give them planning permission.
I can't see them following through on this threat though unless another Sussex council is prepared to shell out a fortune for a new ground somewhere.

The planners are recommending that the council reject the planning permission however......strange seeing as they just granted permission for two massive eyesore towers to be built on the Hove seafront. I guess the council only grant permission when they can make big bucks out of it.

I would really miss the Hove ground if Sussex were forced to move. Hopefully it won't come to that.

What's wrong with it?

(I'd rather sit in a horrible ground and watch a decent team play than go to the Rose Bowl )

Went there last year for our game against you and just thought it was a poor ground. Had to sit on a bloody bench all day...

What in the name of Derek Kenway is that "stand" behind the bowler's arm all about?

While I do like the Rose Bowl in many respects and appreciate that counties have to move with the times and modernise, there's a part of me that likes the traditional, slightly old-fashioned, feel of grounds like Hove. Taunton is another of my favourite grounds for this reason and I fear that the redevelopment that will soon take place there, whilst undoubtedly improving the facilities immensely, will make it lose some of its atmosphere.

The benches are all part of the 'charm' don't you know....

The bowler's arm at which end?

Those chairs on a roof! Half of them look like they're going to fall down at any moment...

Taunton's another pretty poor ground.
