Why didn't he just sign his Queensland contract at the end of our summer? God Aussies really are thick as two short planks. I think we'll just have to make do with what we've got

Maybe they only offered him a contract after the MCC game or upped the salary when they heard how well he did.

I'd have a wild guess that he'd be getting paid more for Sussex, and the Queensland offer would still be there for the winter.

You know what will happen, he'll sign for Hampshire as their overseas player when Bond goes

In the following article Adams suggests Sussex might look to sign Harris as an overseas player in the future:

http://www.ecb.co.uk/domestic/harris,17056,EN.html

But after the way he treated Sussex would you welcome such a move?

Is Adams having a f**king laugh? Personally there is no way on this earth I would re-sign someone who has shown such scant regard for this county.

I think Sussex generally are a more welcoming club and generally don't bare grudges like some of the more northern counties when it comes to this sort of thing. He ticks all the boxes as an overseas player - should be around all year, good age, fit and pretty good from what I saw. I wouldn't mind seeing him as our overseas player once Mushy goes personally. I would give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was down to bad advice as much as anything, and the rule is a bit of a joke anyway

Apparently Alec Stewart has joined the club as part-time coach

James Kirtley has been added to the 12 on duty last week at the Rosebowl:

Nash, Hopkinson, Yardy, Goodwin, Adams (c), Prior (+), Wright, Martin-Jenkins, Aga, Liddle, Mushtaq, Kirtley, Beer

I would go with an unchanged team. Kirtley had a shoulder operation and has only played one 2XI game and he still someway short of full match fitness.

As for 2XI they entertain Durham at Horsham where there is a chance Lewry could play some part. Personally I think this game will come too soon for Lewry.

Possible XII: Hodd, Thornely, Hamilton-Brown, Brown (+), Rayner, Smith (c), Machan, Wells, Adkin, Thorpe, Endersby, Geffen

Sussex could include as many as six Acadmey players! If Geffen and Endersby are selected they will be making their 2XI debuts. Wells and Thorpe will be making just their 2nd game, Adkin his 3rd game and Machan his 13th game.

I think we need a reshuffle. Goodwin should move up to open with Matty at 4, with Hodd coming in at 7. It might be worth giving Hodd the gloves although Prior's been pretty flawless so far

I agree with moving Goodwin to opener and Prior at 4. I would bat Hodd at 6.

Sussex youngster Matt Machan continued his impressive start to the 2008 season by hitting 113 off 83 balls for Brighton & Hove against Littlehampton on Sunday in the National Club Knock Out. This followed on from 57 off 66 balls on Saturday against Horsham and 80 off 48 balls for Sussex Academy against Chichester the week before.

In the last three innings Machan has scored 250 runs at a strike rate of 127 with 39 fours and 8 sixes when it's most difficult to bat! He has scored over a quarter of Brighton and Hove runs this season. He scored two centuries for the Academy in the winter. In 2007 aged 16 he was a 2XI regular and for Brighton and Hove 1XI scored 504 runs @ 42 with three centuries. He's the best up and coming young player.

That'd be why he was bigging up Will Beer on TMS then...

Are among 62 youngsters selected for a training camp next month.

http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/england/en...300203,EN.html

Only Yorkshire with 10 players had more than Sussex's 6.

2XI coach Mark Davis must be glad that the 2XI only play one 2XI trophy match during this period as he will be missing over half of his first choice XI!

I thought Stewart turned the job with Sussex down.

I don't think so. It's not for the whole season though

Lancs had only 1 player.
Looks like we have no talent coming through.

You would have thought that they would have had the forethought to schedule the 2nd XI trophy around this seeing as it's basically full of second XI players

Agree with you Sharky. We can still field a relatively strong side though:

Hodd (+), Thornely, Hamilton-Brown, Piolet, Gould, Wells, Adkin, Thorpe, Kirtley (c), Richardson, Tsostobe

Thornely stars for Sussex seconds

Michael Thornely struck an unbeaten 128 to boost Sussex 2nd XI on the opening day of their Championship match against Gloucestershire at Horsham.

The 20-year-old, who scored over 800 runs last year in the Seconds' title-winning season, stroked 20 fours and shared in an undefeated fifth-wicket stand of 109 with Tom Smith (38 not out).

Sussex, put in, lost wickets cheaply at the top of the innings with Andrew Hodd (7), Rory Hamilton-Brown (1) and Ben Brown (0) all dismissed quickly.

Sussex, who have already lost two Championship matches to the weather, could not get underway until 2.30pm and play went on until 7.30pm.
