Has Bopara finally turned the corner? Before the 2nd innings against Glamorgan he had only 3 tons in 86 innings. He now has 5 in 88 and has scored 300 championship runs without being dismissed. Fingers crossed for Essex and England that this continues.

I reckon he has. Got a taste of International action and he wants more.

Shame though from an Essex point of view because we can't really afford to lose him to International duty.

Two-hundy for the Bop-star. Great work from the lad. Need to up the run rate now as the 400 has come painfully slowly for Essex to dictate the rest of the game.

Ravi goes for 229, a right knock. Here's hoping our many bowler policy works in our favour for once.

Essex vs Northants

Yeeeeesssss come on Essex! 649-5 declared 229 Ravi Bopara 203 Grant Flower. After losing 2 early wickets they recovered spectacularly!

His name was on the swear filter list. I tested it before going in to alter the settings.

Well done Boppy, the only slight concern I have is that he is a middle order player who bowls seam, like Colly and Bell. Do we really think that A, he is likely to be much more threatening than him with the ball for tests and B is he up there yet as a batsman in the same class. If England do drop Strauss, they will still need another opener.

I think that's right, he's middle order cover for Colly and Bell, not an option for replacing Strauss. Probably still behind Shah, maybe Joyce, but is pushing them really close. On the Strauss point, Key is scoring heavily again.....

Well played Bopara and Flower. Hopefully Essex will have "enough" to bowl them out twice. On the Bopara for England issue, I would advocate that he becomes a fixture in the ODI side and that the Test cap is delayed a little. Then again I thought Cook was a bit too young for Test Cricket...

It would be great though to see two young Essex batsman in the England side. A nice reminder to the days of Gooch, Fletcher, Lever, Irani, Illott, Such, Stephenson, Childs and Paul Grayson.

We're pretty in the **** here. The good thing is, it's raining in North Essex and rain is forecast for the next couple of days.

If Strauss is dropped, why couldn't Bopara come in at number 6 with Vaughan moving up to open and Bell up to 3? Those are actually more natural positions in the batting order for both of them.
