Bad news however about our young fast bowling prospects, both Chambers and Westfield have picked up stress fractures on the back, and both will be unable to bowl for at least 3 months.

Getting soundly beaten by Notts here, 90/5, only Chopra really offered much resistance.

Although on the bright side it's nice to see Footit get a game

As pleasing as it was to see our youngsters win a game with the bat against Middlesex (maiden one-day hundreds for both Pettini and Chopra, who was playing only his third one-day game - and one of those he batted at no.11 in!), its also depressing to see our list of injured young bowlers who are losing the chance to progress.

Andrew McGarry, signed up to cover injuries to other fast bowlers (Ahmed, Chambers, Westfield, Thomas, Tudor, Napier) has broken a bone in his hand fielding a straight drive during his 4th over against Notts. The injury requires surgery and he is out for the rest of the season. Can't blame Pont for that one.

Awesome. A team selection which was widely ridiculed for having too many bowlers is now being accused of a lack of bowling. And there's zero chance of anybody disagreeing. I listened to the BBC commentary for a bit. The word "rank" was used. A lot.

Quantity doesn't make up for a lack of quality. Going to be a long season for Essex. Irani's injury is to his bad knee. He's seeing a surgeon for advice. Could be the end of the road, so with him and Flower gone, the middle order has disappeared. Add that to very little bowling, despite playing large amounts of bowlers and we're royally screwed. Even the long list of bowlers who are injured doesn't have that much quality in it. Some promise with the three youngsters, maybe, but proven quality, maybe only Tudor, and that was a while ago.

Good thing we didn't go up last season really. The loss of Gough & Flower, along with the injuries would've made us Div 1 whipping boys.

Pettini gone early.

Time to get a batsmen in on loan. I think the ECB should force Notts to give us Samit Patel, if Notts would rather play overseas players ahead of a 21 yeaar old with a first class average of 50+

I think he actually averages 49, but i almost completely agree with your point, although it's not so much Fleming playing ahead of him, afterall he's quality and the captain. It's the fact that Mark Wagh, decent batsmen to have in reserve, but really nothing more than a journeyman getting in ahead of him for apparently no good reason.

Edit: I forgot about Jefferson, not sure where he'll fit. Hopefully instead of Gallian, but no doubt Shafayat will be axed just like Patel
