Yes, Greg Smith's gone. And Footitt's got a second wicket, that of Foster. I hope this is the start of Footitt at least being considered one of the bowling squad, not just a very occasional team member. We can't find out how good he is without giving him some responsibility.

It's nice to see Footitt get a game. I remember how he knocked over West Indies A, supposed to be quite fast, isn't he?

Very tall as well isn't he? Thought he would have made greater strides by now.

Maybe not so tall in the modern game then.

Surely he'll take the new ball ahead of Ealham () in the second innings?

What second innings? Essex battery of 8 bowlers (count 'em) will surely knock Notts over twice for under 300.

Read on 162, will they wait for his 200 before they declare? He has passed his highest score of 160.

2 days left so it's not out of the question. Last thing the Essex players want is another hour in the field tomorrow, so I wouldn't put it past Fleming to bat on.

Only Pettini and Foster haven't had a bowl.

Yes, according to Hussey

But they seem to think he is the skipper, which he isn't.

Well they declared overnight which is a shame for Read.

I think because there's rain in the air, they're off at the moment. Essex 5-1.

There's some consolation for him - 3 catches already. 15 for 3 in the 12th over.
