I see Notts have announced their new captain. Interesting choice...

Indeed it is. Assuming Hussey's coming back next year, I think most people would have expected him to be captain after this year's flying start to CC Div 2. However, Newell's said before that he rates Read as a potential captain.

500 in a day against Derbyshire - it doesn't get much more sweet than that
and Read is closing in on 1000 runs in the season, which would be quite an achievement even in a rather poor division. Averaging over 60 at the moment.

How much potential does he have with the ball?

If he can work on that form of the game England could really use someone like that in ODI.

I haven't seen that much of his bowling. But whenever I've seen his analyses this season he doesn't give much away and often chips in with wickets. Generally speaking our attack is so strong that he isn't needed, but the injury crisis this season has given him more opportunities to prove his mettle.

So now we know - Notts need a point against Somerset. Who thinks we can manage that much?

going on previous form, needing a solitary point or two in their final game is a bit of a lottery for notts

Membership forms for 2008 came through today, along with some more images of the new Trent Bridge.

It looks rather good.

You have to start wondering whether Notts can cock this up when you see them collapse from 102 for 2 to 105 for 5.

Despite the promotion and a pretty good year in one-day cricket, the end of season feels pretty flat. This is really a very poor performance against Somerset - though all credit to Munday who must be delighted.

At the moment I don't feel very confident about next season. I just hope Read makes a good start and learns fast - he's got a tough job to do, following in the footsteps of a captain as respected as Fleming.

Pretty decent season. Would have expected to have won LVCC2 but injuries and weather hit hard, and Somerset played quite well. Ealham would have made a huge difference in our early Pro40 match with Worcestershire.

Not too confident about signing a Somerset reject though. ;-)

We could be down 3/5ths of a bowling attack at times next season. Good news for Ferley I guess...

Jefferson
Wood / Billy
Wagh
Hussey
Patel
Read
Ealham
Swann (Ferley)
Broad (Franks?)
Sidebottom (new signing?)
Shreck

Newell has said he wants one more paceman.

Won't Footitt get more of a chance?

I'd quite forgotten him Disappointing for him that the injury took away a good chance for him to get some first XI cricket this summer just gone.

I hope Footitt does get a chance, but it depends who the new signing is I guess, if indeed there is one. Andy Harris isn't in my eleven or nominated replacements either, although injuries may be catching up with him now anyway. Next year is Harris' benefit year, not that that should have any impact on team selection.

At least Simon Francis has been released
