University Matches

Anyone off to one?

I'm going to Yorkshire vs Leeds Bradford MCCU a week on Sunday, weather permitting. I'm not a Yorkshire fan but it's the closest ground to where I live and I like to get a bit of cricket in as early as I can.

Tuesday 28th - Cambridge v Notts - first visit to Fenner's
Wednesday 29th and/or Thursday 30th - Kent v Leeds/Bradford

Or possibly the other way around on Tuesday, depending on the respective weather in Canterbury and Cambridge. At the moment the forecast looks very promising.

I considered going to watch Cambridge vs Lancs (my girlfriend is from Lancs) but it isn't do-able unfortunately. Headingley is much easier and cheaper to get to.

Shame because I haven't been to Fenners before.

Have looked at the weather for next week and am tempted to go up to the Parks on Tuesday to watch Oxford take on Surrey.

I've been considering trying to fit Oxford as well into next week's schedule, but it would be three very long days in sucession to do Cambridge, Canterbury and Oxford.

Anyway, it's good to see so many forum members heading off to watch matches to mark the season's start.

Surrey's website has next week's game v Oxford as finishing at 5pm each day. Is that the case even though the clocks will have gone forward?

Well, not unless they've altered the playing regulations. As they are first-class matches, the hours are strictly set, and in the past have always been 11.00-6.30, with lunch at 1.15pm and tea at 4.10pm, no set number of overs in the day.

Maybe they got confused with the third day when they can shake hands at 5pm?

Yep, i think you are right. Do you know if the public are allowed to sit in the seats that are part of the pavilion?

Would love to know who will be playing for Surrey. I'm guessing Kumar Sangakkara wont be!

I'm afraid I have never been, and one of the reasons I am cautious about going in March, even though the forecast is good, is that there seems to be no cover, nor anywhere to retreat to in the near vicinity.

I would expect Surrey to field a strong team, however, they always have done for these matches as I recall.

Weather set fair for tomorrow. Looking forward to a day at Oxford. Easily the earliest in the year i have had a day at the cricket!

Decent looking Surrey team as well.

Yes, I am all set as well. Still haven't quite decided on Cambridge or Canterbury yet. I want to go to Cambridge, definitely, but I want to check the forecast tomorrow morning regarding the supposed "showers" around.

The Counties are batting first in every one of the six Uni games (is that a pre-arranged deal these days?).

Plenty of county batters have made starts but none has as yet gone on to exploit the studes' bowling to the tune of three figures. Denly, Rudolph and Tavare all currently in the 60s, but the latter is also in the pavilion courtesy of rain.

Four wickets for one Cambridge bowler out of the 5 that Notts have lost. Figures of 22-7-57-4 look quite spinner-like (next most overs bowled has been 15). Wessels, Patel and a well-set Mullaney among his victims, so certainly an impressive day for the guy.

EDIT - removes another well-set batsman (Greg Smith) to get his five-fer. Get him in the test side! Think this is the chap: http://hertscca.play-cricket.com/web...le_type_id=179
