Well with Ball in for Broad, Notts have run through Durham's top order.

Glamorgan, o dear

Glamorgan made a decent recovery with Lloyd last man out for 88. Then the Worcs top order finding the going challenging. In general, sides batting first have had to battle today.

Philander 0/57 Archer 7/67. The South African contingent didn't take a wicket for Sussex as Kent rallied to get 300 then nab Nash before close.

Philander didn't get a wicket for us in 2 games a few years ago either!

That's bloody harsh! I saw him take 4 for 8 on his Kent debut in a T20 game v Middx.

He only played two CC games, both of them on horribly low and slow tracks especially prepared to break a seam bowler's heart.

Surprised Kent dropped Weatherley and Harris today after both played substantial roles in the victory v Glos last week.

Good to see competition for places for the first time in many years - but why take players on loan if you are not going to play them? Hopefully Hants and Middx are still paying their wages rather than Kent!

Jofra Archer is a star in the making. He was 12th man v Kent at Tunbridge Wells last season and had the languid air of Chris Gayle about him, strolling around ther boundary with a diamond stud in his ear and the hugest, bright yellow designer watch on his wrist. He didn't even take the watch off when he was required to field sub.

He was reccomended to Sussex by Chris Jordan and from what I saw of him in a couple of games at Hove last season v Glos and Worcs, I'd say he has the potential to be even better than CJ.

Harris missed this game with "a minor chest injury" according to Kent website. Will be fine to return at Canterbury next weekend.

Yes, l saw his performance vs Middlesex in the T20 too. And thought he'd be great. But it turned out he wasn't fully fit and didn't take a single wicket in 4 innings in the County Championship. You expect more from an overseas player!

I think this is a regular problem with overseas bowlers signed on stupidly short contracts. To expect them to turn up and immediately acclimatise to conditions, pitches, their teammates etc and produce f-c performances worthy of their international status is a tad unrealistic. Some manage it, quite a few don't.

Enjoyable morning listening to Sussex vs Kent on BBC radio, with Kent picking up regular wickets to leave the hosts scrambling towards the follow-on target. Seems the weather is holding up quite well around the country, considering it is only Easter weekend.

Fletcher and Pattinson putting Notts in a strong position after the top order flopped again.

Durham let Notts get from 128-6 to 305. Likely to cost them the match.

Well he's now got a groin injury and with a heavy summer of international cricket ahead, I wouldn't be surprised if CSA decree that his brief career in a Sussex shirt is already over. With Philander unable to bowl, Kent look odds-on to pick up 22 pts from this match.

That'd be swell, although I wouldn't discount the possibility of Kent's second innings stuttering as their first did, leaving Sussex a manageable chase. I hope wickets don't tumble too quickly today as I'm hoping for a seaside trip on Monday.

Kent leaving it late to declare. 426 ahead and now gone off for bad light.

Enjoy your trip to the seaside today, rob. My guess is that despite Northeast batting far too long for 50 extra gratuitous runs last night,Sussex will capitulate sometime in mid-afternoon before the rain which is forecast to arrive around 4pm.

LIke you, I'd never discount the prospect of a Kent stutter in the batting, but my assessment of the likely progress of the Kent second innings was based solely on the weakness of the Sussex attack, sans Philander, Magoffin, Ollie Robinson and Briggs to exert some control from at least one end, plus the statistical unlikelihood of young Archer causing the same mayhem second time around.

By tonight Notts and Kent will likely be 40 odd pts ahead of Sussex and while it is far too early in the season to write off Sussex's promotion chances, just two weeks in they are likely to find themselves with a Durham-sized deficit to catch up on the early front-runners.

Some declaration bowling allowed Luis Reece and Billy Godleman to break Derbyshire's record opening stand, making 333, previously held by Harry Storer and Joseph Bowden in 1929.

Leicestershire reverting to the "mean" of a couple of years ago. Another winless season?
