The bears look like they're in the hunt...

Freddies commentary is hilarious and not in a good way. Everything he says is an exclamation.

Also call up for samit to England odi squad

Another tight last-over victory for Surrey, relying on young Currant again. As strong as they look, I think they are too light on the spinner front and it will catch up with them at some point.

Essex - team of the season thus far - are codsing up the start of their T20 campaign, today succumbing to Kent, of all sides. However, with a bigger and arguably more realistic prize to aim for, it might not be a bad thing if such form were to continue.

Eh? Wasn't at Beckenham as I was at Lords, but Kent are surely a good side with the Kiwis Milne and Neesham in the ranks -just as they looked a good side when they had Parnell and Harris in the CC.

It's when they haven't got expensive imports to bolster their threadbare bowling that they get found out!

The most disappointing thing is the almost total lack of progress shown by Kent's youngsters. If you're not going to blood them in T20 when are you going to do so?

Yet Kent play almost the same side in T20 as they do in the CC with the only significant change being Blake - who is 28 - coming in for the younger triple-centurion Dickson.

Adam Ball played yesterday but only because Claydon suffered a last minute injury. He didn't bowl and was down to bat at nine. What's the point?

The likes of Ball, Bernard, Crawley, Haggett, Hunn, Hartley, Riley and Thomas may not have what it takes to make it as professional cicketers. But we're never going to find out if they never play.

Contrast with the way Essex have brought on youngsters like Lawrence, Walter and Porter and Sussex have over the last year introduced Archer, Garton, Whittingham, Sakande, Salt, Rawlins, Burgess etc.

They didn't look too hot when they had Parnell and Harris in the earlier white ball competition.

Parnell only played two of the eight matches - including the only game Kent won, when he set up victory by shooting out Gubbins and Malan in his first two overs!

It's the rest that are the worry in white ball cricket. Stevens' dibbly-dobblies are only effective with a red ball; Coles and Claydon serve up far too many four-balls in the short forms of the game and the other non-overseas seamers are pants whatever the colour of the ball. Which only leaves Steady Treddy whom Northeast can rely upon not to go around the park in the RLC and the Blast. Hence the need for Milne and Neesham...

Kent could do a lot worse than sign Ajmal Shahzad. He's several classes above Claydon, Haggett, Ball, Hunn, Hartley, Thomas, Bernard and Gidman as a seamer.

Agreed. Hence my "of all teams" comment. Worse record of all the counties in white ball cricket this season. The guest stars' contributions in the Essex game does give some cause for hope, though.

Not good news about Tamim Iqbal leaving Essex after only one game.

Not good at all.

Blimey. You can see why Essex tried to hush it up as "personal reasons" and tried to gag UK media by asking for his "privacy to be respected". But stupid of them because a serious crime was committed. You cannot keep something like that quiet and inevitably it's now all over the Daily Mail :

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/spo...id-attack.html

There are potentially serious repercussions not only legally but in cricketing terms if this nasty, racist attack deters other Muslim cricketers from Bangladesh, Pakistan and perhaps Afghanistan from taking up contracts in the UK. Additionally sickening that it should happen while the brave Afghani team is playing its historic match at Lords against the MCC.

Deeply sorry for Tamim and his family and I hope he can be reassured we are not all like that and tolerance and decency are still the values of most British people.

He has made a statement saying the reports of attacks against his family are untrue.

And the BCB have still said that the attack is the reality, according to the Daily Star. Either way, there's clearly something going on here.

Alleged attempted acid attack which seems to be a particularly cowardly form of violent Islamophobic incident becoming more frequent in our country.

Really sad stuff about Tamim. I know he probably doesn't want to cause a fuss but if that did happen then it needs to be investigated and widely reported.

George Garton just came within an inch of being Luke Fletcher-ed by James Vince.

How long before bowlers have to start wearing helmets as well as the batsmen?

Defo getting worse. Interesting that in this article niether the ethnicity nor a picture of the victim is given, yet both for the 2nd victim.

It's ****ing disgusting. I'd happily bring back the death penalty for people who carry out this kind of attack.

Off to see Hants play Middlesex tomorrow at the Rose Bowl. Looking forward to seeing a Middlesex line-up including McCullum, Malan, Stirling, Morgan, Southee and Finn!

Afridi and Crane against McCullum could be very interesting!
