Wow. What a run chase from Kent.

I must admit I though Kent's bottle had gone after losing eight of their last ten white ball games.

But hat's off to Joe Denly. Never thought Kent would get anywhere near Surrey's 205.

I'd turned the radio commentary off and was watching the Roses match and only turned the commentary from the Oval back on when they went off for rain at Old Trafford. I couldn't beleive my ears. Happy days are here again!

I didn't think 206 was an unattainable target at the spacious Oval but I too couldn't see Kent getting there. A crunching win to see them leapfrog their local rivals in the table. Joe is having the season of his life, which is so good to behold. He was also Kent's most economical bowler this evening and removed Rey's fastest scorer at the point where he was threatening to go nuclear.

Lyth should be flogged for that shot. Also Kohler-Cadmore's rubbish, can see why Worcester released him early.

That's the way I saw it, but would play have continued as long as it did if the TV cameras had not been there?

Can't help but feel Derbyshire have missed a trick bringing in Matt Henry. Generally out T20 attack is decent with Viljoen and Tahir but with a top 4 including Godleman, Reece and Madsen you just aren't going to get consistent scores on the board.

Essex are ***** at T20 this year. It's gonna suck the momentum out of our County Championship run and we'll finish third and I'll hate everyone.

It's interesting that the two teams which bossed their respective 50 over groups are proving to be y-fronts at the shorter white ball format. I guess the absence of a top drawer opening bat makes a difference for Essex (not that he'd play T20 if available).

Yeah Madsen and Godleman aren't going to get you the big scores in this format - oops. Credit to Madsen into his 30s and he's really developing his game with both bat and ball. 3 out of 4 and it's all getting a little giddy - the traditional pounding at Notts should sort that out.

You are truly down with the kids these days in terming 290 off 40 overs as "moderate scoring".

You wonder in that case why not give Nick Browne a go. If Billy Godleman, one of the slowest batsmen in the domestic first-class game, can metamorphose into a blazing attacking player in T20, then anyone with the core ability/class can. It's just a matter of approaching the game differently.

I remember when 200 off 40 in a JPL match was a winning score 19 times out of 20.

Mat Pillans bowled well for Leicestershire last night. He did something I think quick bowlers should do far more often - it went like this:

Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight
Full and straight

That's 12 balls full and straight.

What happens if the batsman ramps the first two over the fine leg boundary- should the third one still be full and straight?

Fourth full and straight ball then gets slog swept for six by the batsman running down the wicket and the fifth one gets flicked over the ropes with a reverse ramp over third man.

Should the sixth ball still be full and straight?

The breathtaking ingenuity of modern batsmen means the days when you could just run up and bowl to such a simple formula time are long gone, Paul.

Tamim would definitely play if available.

Essex really miss that aggressive opening bat. Whilst I'm happy with prioritising 4 day cricket, we have never replaced Pettini in the short stuff.

In contrast to the 4 day stuff, we haven't quite identified roles in T20 cricket. Whilst I think we can say goodbye to qualification for this year, I hope we can use the remaining matches to work out a line-up for 2018.
