Dunno but tomorrow is against Warwickshire at OT. Lancs have named a 13 man squad this week with Cork returning from suspension. Chilton (capt), Chapple, Cork, Croft, Cross, Hogg, Horton, Keedy, Loye, Marshall, Mullaney, Smith, Sutton (wkt).

One noticeable omission is Stuart Law who is obviously still injured or they are not willing to risk him for the championship game against Surrey in the week. Oliver Newby not in the squad so Cork will replace him. Cross should play as a batsmen and I guess Smith or Hogg with play and Keedy/Croft/Mullaney will be the other players to miss out.

Does anyone think that if we gave the captaincy to Sutton, Chilton's batting might improve.

Well Sutton's batting couldn't get much worse, in one-dayers at least. Two straight golden ducks is quite an achievement

On the positives Gareth Cross looks a fanatastic prospect even if he can only get in the team as a batsman only. Trott almost had 3 in a row against Lancs. I think Paul Horton was reminding him of this today.

Following fitness testing and medical reviews at the National Cricket Centre on Monday April 30, it has been decided that England players Andrew Flintoff, James Anderson and Sajid Mahmood should be made available to Lancashire for the Friends Provident Trophy one-day matches against Northamptonshire on Sunday May 6 and away to Durham on Monday May 7.

James Anderson had previously been unavailable for the game on May 6, and Andrew Flintoff and Sajid Mahmood had previously been unavailable for the game on May 7.

All other previously announced player availability decisions remain unchanged.

Yeah. Common sense prevails. Not such good news if you are Croft, Hogg, Smith or Marshall...

So is Smith injured, or not?

Not. He is in the squad for the game tomorrow. Newby is in better form.

He has had a stomach strain though. He was in the nets on Sunday and looked physically fit according to my Dad.

So it is between Newby, Smith and Hogg for two places. I think Cork should just play in the 4 day games and let one of the young bowlers replace him. He would be more likely to go through the season injury free and be fresher.

However all 3 will be missing out against Hants as I can't see anything other than a bowling attack of Flintoff, Anderson, Mahmood, Chapple, Cork and a spinner.

Well it is only for one game as Flintoff will be off for Tests and Mahmood likely to be 12th man.
We could have a one day team like this. I can't see Chilton as a one day player.

Loye
Law
Hodge
Croft
Cross
Sutton (c)
Chapple
Hogg
Anderson
Smith or Keedy
Murali

Looks a good team on paper...all the stronger with Chilton not being in it. I can't help joining the enemy and saying that Chilton it not a very good county batsman at all.

All-rounder Dominic Cork was subjected to some barracking by a section of Lancashire supporters, but he provided the important breakthrough. Newman pulled a Cork delivery straight to fine-leg and the former England international took great delight in asking the crowd about the dismissal when he returned to the boundary.
What's this about then?

According to the ECB report Cork had been bowling a lot of short pitch delivery's which wasn't getting any wickets so the fans were having a dig. He then got Newman with a similar delivery so returned the favour.

Next week will be interesting on the basis of the first innings I guess Chapple would lose out to Anderson for the newball and one of Smith and Newby will give way for Mahmood. Horton would make way for Hodge and possibly Sutcliffe for Flintoff or maybe Law will get a break if he still has injury problems.

Chapple likes first change and often lets Smith or Hogg take the new ball. I don't think Newby will be left out of any CC game. I was watching clips of his bowling today and he has a very fast arm.
CC wickets so far this season.

Keedy - 13
Newby - 9
Chapple - 2
Smith - 2
Cork - 1

Chapple took the first over today. In one day games he now comes on first change. Maybe this will be Newby's breakthrough season. I think Kyle Hogg is looking like a one day specialist for us at the moment whereas Newby looks better in the 4 day game.
