It is...just one home and away I think...with just Hants and Essex. Bit pointless really as they never field full teams but hey, it's the only trophy we won last year!!

You going to the Essex AGM? I fancy having a stir about playing the odd game in Valentines Park, Ilford.

No I'm not but good luck if you go. Did you read in the Daily Mail they are hoping to play some matches at Lords when the development is happening? That was news to me! Although just as easy for me to get to if my OH is still in the same job then! And I'm still going.

providing that essex and middlesex dont have match clashes, it shoudlnt be a problem (in theory of course)

Before the ICL and IPL cricketers were complaining that there was too much cricket. I guess and $ signs get rid of that tiredness very quickly. Nearly all international players want to play but there is only a limited number of players needed. The majority of the players being picked are not necessarily the best players of the 20/20 game but the big names. All the England players would like to play but probably only about 5 or 6 would be wanted anyway.

Vaughan's name has been on the wish list I read. He has played two 20/20s and is not even in the ODI side. Harmison's name was also on the list. It would suit him more than most if he only played in the IPL because he would get to spend most of his time at home and have even more money for the family.

If they had a choice would a player go for the money or would they rather play for their country? It's likely that they could do both in the near future. But if they had to chose one or the other it would be interesting to see who would do what.

Many players say they want to play for their country but probably it's more about the money they get playing for their country. The lure of even more money for less work could appeal to some of them. Some players are injury prone and a strenuous 20/20 game could rule them out of upcoming Tests. Are they good enough to adapt from one format to the other without practice matches? Then there is the the worry that if things don't work out playing in India would someone have taken their England place. County players will be more determined to get into the England squad so they could also get a chance to play in India.

Here's the irony; in the current climate, the reason a player would be in high demand for the IPL is because of their success playing for their country. If a player doesn't make it on the international stage first, his appeal to the IPL is almost nil. Yet in the future, if Test match cricket is diminished by the growth and appeal of IPL and ICL, the appeal of the international "stars" will decline.

McCullum, the dashing wicketkeeper-batsman, stood to lose the most among his teammates after being signed for $700,000 by movie star Shahrukh Khan's Kolkata franchise. He can now hope to pick up $8500 dollars at the most.

NZC will be hoping he doesn't pick up an injury with his preference for coming down the wicket to bowlers.

I would be very interested if you could go out and find the exact proportion of injuries caused by being struck while charging a fast bowler to all injuries sustained on the cricket field in internationals. I'd also like it if you could weight your findings depending on the speed of the bowlers, the pace in the pitch, and the body-part struck. That would interest me immensely.

Then I would like you to consider how you know him to have this 'preference'. Ah, yes, from his innings for NZ. "Don't play like that in the IPL", John Bracewell will be saying. "It's a successful tactic for us, and I wouldn't mind seeing you cop a broken rib or two but only as long as it's all in the Kiwi cause. Elsewhere, niet."

Brendon will then turn into a back-foot slogger like Chris Read and everybody will be happy.

For those who have - or are thinking of getting - Setanta, here is the list of live games they will be showing -

Or you could find a live internet stream. There are plenty around.

July 2007
Pietersen has called for more time off to be built into the international calendar to allow the top players to recover. "The England team is a team that never, ever stops," he said.

"It's been a long, long three years and I haven't had a proper break to be honest with you.

29/2
There's no way in this world I'd turn my back on England," he told BBC Radio Five Live. "I know there is interest and, yes, there have been offers, etc etc, but it's not something I'm particularly interested in. Money's not really too important, it's not as if I need money right now. I'm really enjoying doing what I'm doing."

Kevin Pietersen believes it is "silly" that England players are unable to take part in the Indian Premier League and called for officials to create a gap in the international calendar to enable everyone to play.

Reading between the lines it sounds like KP wants to make a healthy bit of dosh for a few weeks work.

Almost half of Australia's contracted cricketers would consider quitting international cricket to play in the new Indian Twenty20 leagues.

The figure is contained in a survey of elite players conducted by the Australian Cricketers' Association, and raises the possibility that some players could choose not to renew Cricket Australia contracts and instead maximise their earnings in the Indian Premier League.

Asked whether they would consider early retirement from international cricket to play in either the IPL or its unsanctioned competitor, the Indian Cricket League, 47 per cent of players contracted to Cricket Australia and 49 per cent of state players answered "yes".

Pity more players didn't have this attitude to the IPL and county cricket.

Although the likes of Albie Morkel, David Hussey and Cam White have been snapped up and White and Morkel went for more money than many of the established test players yet none of that trio has played tests.

'Even if I got 10,000 I would still play for Durham' says a lot.

Hants let Mascarenhas go to the IPL because if they didn't they thought he might leave the county as his contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

While in New Zealand with the squad Mascarenhas said "I felt I could not really speak to any of the England management or players specifically about the approach.

Unfortunately not. Have Setanta to get the Aussie Rules and this was a bonus.

Try Here perhaps?

McCullum on fire. Great to watch
