What McCullum's going to do to James Anderson next month I shudder to think.

That only means McCullum's due several devastating innings.

What an innings from McCullum - making an incredible 158* out of 222, I think he should be in line for a pay rise on his $700k after that effort. Just a pity that the innings was for the Hasselhoff Knight Riders and not NZ.

I have to say though that the Knight Riders look a very impressive franchise in their futuristic black & gold outfits. They also have a very exciting batting line-up with McCullum, Ponting, Hussey & Ganguly, apparently Gayle is also waiting in the wings. Can't really say the same for the Bangalore Royal Challengers, apart from having a dud name, their big name players like Dravid & Kallis are more test players than T20 players. It looks like they will be making up the numbers in this tournament.

All the statistics are unofficial so it's a bit of a hit and giggle really.

I think the players are more relaxed knowing that these stats don't count so they are more likely to swing the bat.

These are nearer exhibition matches than real cricket.

Of course these stats count. Sorry but because they aren't 'official' means that the players dont care?

They are playing among their peers, against a whole host of internationals, of course they care. Everyone wants to be the best.

Well I'm not sure it matters whether the IPL stats are official, after all when it comes down to it all T20 matches are just a bit of a silly lark really that shouldn't be taken too seriously. The fact that players in this competition are only playing for money rather than for their country just makes it all the more frivolous.

Having said that McCullum's innings was still a brilliant performance regardless of the circumstances, however I doubt if he would have been as pleased about winning a match for the Hasselhoff Knight Riders as he would have felt about winning a match for his beloved NZ Black Caps. I suspect McCullum's first thoughts after his brilliant innings would have been that it should help to bump up his salary in the next IPL auction and perhaps also secure him a starring role in the next blockbuster Bollywood feature alongside the Knight Riders showpony actor owner.

Let's face it as long as the players get their massive pay cheques I doubt whether they really care if their IPL teams win or lose.

How is this for sheer stupidity. They want to introduce a champions league which features top domestic sides from different countries. The plan is to play the tournament after the Champions Trophy (finishes on Sept 28th) and the First India v Australia test which is on the 9th October. The proposed venue for this tournament is wait for it England!

But only 25 off the last over which might give the Kings some hope.

Hussey looks to have done a McCullum by scoring the majority of the Super Kings total. I guess he really is a Super King. Those gritty old Kings XI Punjabs, with Hopes & Sangakkara, are refusing to bow down to the Super Kings though and are now taking up the challenge. So this Battle of the Kings could well go down to the wire.

Its all very confusing with all these different Kings, whatever happened to the days of good old simple Burger King.
