The Glamorgan Thread

Allow me to be outraged for every Welshman on this site... well SDC anyway. Where the hell is the Glamorgan thread?

Well it's here now and we'll start with the fun news that everyone's least favourite Ashes Test ground is being named the SWALEC stadium. ugh.

If there's a campaign to get it known as Sophia Gardens again count me in. I don't really want to say "eh lads, let's get down the SWALEC for the afternoon session".

I have low expectations for Glamorgan this season although I am excited about trying to cram as much cricket into my calander as I can so for this season at least I'll be an honourary Glamorgan fan. I hope Harris has finished his A-levels and Jamie Dalrymple has learned to turn the ball or it'll be a hell of a long season.

What's Maynard doing batting at number eight?

Good performances by Maynard and Watkins who probably aren't two of the strongest XI on paper but are certainly putting forward their case for a starting place.

Following up on his successful (albeit one-off) debut in the FP last summer by the look of it...

Harris will be doing his A-levels this summer unless he has dropped out. Since he will taking A2 exams they should start after the half term holiday so he should be good for the first few weeks of the season but not too sure if he'll be around too much at the start of June.

A few half-decent signings, plus the return of Powell and Harrison from injury, should mean Glamorgan don't struggle quite so badly this season.

Sussex won the second warm-up off the last ball, Michael Yardy and Tom Smith hit 15 off the last over to win. I might be going down tomorrow for the 2-day game if the weather is OK

Okay, so I'm gonna get a season ticket to Glamorgan this season and I want some advice. The County Championship only ticket is 50, but it's only a hundred squid to include all the one day matches (sans twenty20). I work Sundays though so I don't know whether it's worth it. Any advice?

Glamorgan tend to do a lot of floodlit games during the week so there might not be too many one-day games on Sundays.

Just checked - 2 weekday FP games, 2 Sunday; 3 weekday Pro40 games, 1 Sunday.

I saw the SWALEC last weekend. It looks like a second division football stadium.

Just took a few wickets in the last CC match i believe.

Apologies for my absence (last year of university meant time on the computer was spent largely on endless assignments) but on my return i'm determined to keep all up to date on anything Glamorgan.

Starting with this....I'd like to share how deeply proud I am that we have NO Kolpak players and only one overseas player...this makes us morally superior and thats why we are hosting the first ashes test next year.

haha...i guess so. I'm not sure what part of Birmingham Trott, Botha and Carter are from. But you're far better than Northants (or South Africa 'A' as i call them).

I was impressed at how they dug in second time around last week. Harris is taking more and more wickets as well, it excites me how good he could be. Also what do you think of Dalrymple? I was surprised he was one of your top 3 MPVs. Hasn't been setting the world alight.

Yeah i did keep an eye on the scorecard, i thought if they'd have got a lead of 200 they had a chance, but to skittle them for less than a hundred was brilliant. However i think 5-6 for Robert Croft tells you something about the pitch!

Dalrymple, hmmm. Was exited when we signed him but he's not really performed. 433 runs so far at 27, with a high score of 82. Not what you'd expect from an england international but i'm sure he'll sort it. However, only one player, Hemp, averages over 40 so it's not as if he's disgraced himself. Harris' looks good from what i've seen of him on TV. Croft has been our only star really so far...32 wickets at 21! there's life in the old dog yet.

Harris bowling with Dizzy can only help him as well. I've got high hopes for that young man.
