Colin Metson. He's had an eventful few years...

Do you know, that's just what I thought when I saw the headline...

Local media in Cardiff have apparently thrown their weight behind the Maynard camp with rumours of more players threatening to walk.

This is the trouble when one man puts so much money in he feels he owns the place. *angry*

Paul Russell 7 December 2009:

“I am delighted that we have secured Matthew and Jamie’s services for the next 2 seasons. Over the past few weeks, we have spent a considerable amount of time reviewing the Club’s cricket function and, as a result of the recent comprehensive review, we have set in place agreed measures to build on the improvements shown by the team last season.
Jamie and Matthew both have the full support of the Club’s Executive and Committee. I am looking forward to what promises to be an exciting 2010.”

What a guy!

Sounds like a shambles. And to think, I was holding Glamorgan up as a great example of what can be achieved with a good captain/coach combo and talented youngsters only a couple of months ago, hoping that Gloucestershire would follow the same model.

Are they totally crackers?

Cosgrove was their total star player - not to mention the sort of player that really generates excitement in a match - and can turn a match situation. Any sane person would have had him signing on for 2011 straightaway.

I Love watching Mark Cosgrove bat - he's certainly never boring. He's the type of player most opposition supporters would like to have in their own team - a talented and wholehearted fatty who is entertaining to watch.

Glamorgan were pretty unlucky not to be promoted last season; anyone with any common sense would have left those at the helm of a talented and well-balanced team to complete their mission next year.

With the threat of an EGM in the air then they're going to have to do something...

Glamorganís left arm seamer Adam Shantry has announced his retirement from first-class cricket with immediate effect. Shantry, 28, has quit after a series of knee problems.

I notice he is the second Glamorgan seamer forced to retired because of injury after David Harrison.

Sad to hear that, he had an excellent record when fitness allowed.

Despite the loss of Shantry and Harrison Glamorgan aren't exactly short of seamers!

Allenby
Ashling
Brown
Glover
Harris
A Jones
S Jones
Norman
Owen
Reed
Wagg
Waters

with Allenby, Harris, S Jones and Wagg being the four first choice seamers and with Cosker as the main spinner.

Technically S Jones is back at Hampshire... for the moment, anyway...

Australian Michael Hogan joins Glamorgan on a 3 year contract. British passport.

Glamorgan’s head of elite performance Matthew Mott, believes Hogan will aid the development of Glamorgan’s young seamers such as England Lions’ James Harris.

Harris 10791 balls 211 wickets at 27.22 econ 3.19 s/r 51.1
Hogan 6036 balls 100 wickets at 28.46 econ 2.82 s/r 60.3

List A
Harris 40 wickets at 25.12
Hogan 26 wickets at 36.38

20/20
Harris 20 wickets at 28.85
Hogan 6 wickets at 43.16

It will be more likely that Hogan (30) will be learning from Harris (21).
