Good to see him back involved in cricket. I always enjoy listening to his views when he's in the Sky studio.

He's been involved in the local Kent cricket season for a few years now, skippering Lashings. Not too aware of his coaching pedigree but I'm pleased that the club has appointed an 'outsider'.

Just before Christmas itwas announced that the 40 over match in Yorkshire on 6th May was to be moved from Headingley to Scarborough.

Today its been anounced that the match is to be moved back to Scarborough. The reason is the possibility of a televised match.

Just thought I'd better let Kent people know

Apparently Matt Coles has been called up to the England Lions squad for the rest of their Asian tour, he seems to be highly rated at Kent but from the little I've seen of him I'm not hugely impressed.

If we're in need of a bowling all-rounder this year I'd much rather Adam Ball was given a go. He's only 18/19, showed promise last year and is having a decent tour with England U19s at the moment.

Same here. He seems very expensive whenever I look at a scorecard with him on it, though his one-day average is surprisingly good.

I seem to recall that a certain current team player was surprisingly picked for the A team and was fast-tracked into the side. The rest as they say is history.

I'm sure people who know a lot more about cricket than I do can see some huge potential, but it's a touch odd to me that even though Kent were awful last season, a reserve has been called up for the national A team squad.

With regards to the recent signings of Harmison Jr and Powell, I'm disappointed. Harmy has never really made the grade even though he's been on the county circuit for a few years, and given the family homesickness problems, will he settle in Kent? I hope we've done our homework on this one. Powell, while an excellent county pro for years, has declined and he's no spring chicken, I can understand the need for an experience replacement for Van Jaarsveld but I have my doubts. Hopefully I'm proved wrong and a change of surroundings will be just what he needs.

It looks like it will be a battle to stay off bottom spot again sadly.

Kent sign Brendan Nash. Available whole season. Looks like a decent signing.

On the face of it it an uninspiring overseas signing however he will more than likely be available for the whole season and would be fairly cheap for an overseas player so I can understand the decision. A battler in the middle order would be good for Kent too, we've had far too many collapses in the past couple of seasons and I presume Jimmy Adams will know Nash from Jamaica so hopefully he'll be good around the dressing room as well, so I'm hopeful that even if big runs don't come on the pitch (an average in the 30s would still make him a key performer though!) his overall impact will be beneficial to the club.

Let's hope Kent can make a go of it this coming season. Not been that great of late. 'He Ate all the Pies', needs to be slimed down and leading from the front.

The Guv'nor did shed a fair bit of weight a couple of years ago. Personally, I think he was a much more consistent performer with the pounds on.

His most prolific period was from 2004 to 2007. 5658 f-c runs at 57.7 with 20 hundreds, including that double against WI at Lord's. That was all in the chubby era.

He's been prolific in appearances in the Sky commentary box/studio since then.

Looks like Mark Davies is joining Kent.

He's one of those "forgotten" pace bowlers who has been plagued by injury but actually has an astonishingly good record - career bowling average of 22, in this case

I'm sure we used to have a 'Mark Davies for England' thread, though it might have been on the old board, or was on here and has got pruned.

Mark Davies' career stats are outstanding:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/...yer/12457.html

The fact that he's managed to play only 83 First Class matches in ten seasons says it all unfortunately. Even if Kent only get 8-12 Championship games out of him it should significantly enhance their promotion chances.
