Stunning 10* from GoJo today as Kent win their List A game. England ignore this man at their peril.

Kent are still asking for an additional 5 points for the abandonment at New Road.

I can't understand why. Until the rules are changed the official result should be - Match abandoned due to rain - 4pts each.

Having just read Carl Openshaw's letter to the counties asking them to reconsider, I think he makes very good points regarding the unprecedented nature of the New Road cancellation, which really had nothing to do with rain at the time of the scheduled match. I quote:

"It is important to recognise that the failure to start and the subsequent abandonment of the match [at New Road] had nothing to do with prevailing weather conditions," he wrote. "In contrast with the Roses match played over the same period, the weather had been relatively fine in Worcester in the days leading up to the match.

"Whereas almost all league matches in the Manchester area that weekend were cancelled because of bad weather, local league games in the Worcester area proceeded uninterrupted.

"There is surely no comparison between matches which, as happens in most seasons, are affected by heavy rain shortly before and during the game and the unprecedented situation of a ground under 12 feet of water 10 days before the scheduled start of a Championship match."

I've nothing further on this issue re the Worcester abandonment. Seems it has subsided like the waters of New Road.

If Kent really believe in their principled stand, they ought to continue to press the issue. Otherwise, the next time something of the same kind occurs, someone will say, "Remember 2007? Well we did nothing at that, so acting would be quite unprecedented".

I realise I've been swimming upstream of the general opinion on this one, but after the stink Kent have made up to now, I'd be a bit disappointed if they just drop the matter.

Big Bob has been confirmed as skipper for 2008.

Anyone know who the 'exciting new additions' to the squad could be?

Good old FBK. He'd be my stand by batsman for the Sri Lanka tour, especially as Ramps has turned the chance down. The more Key's England prospects recede, the more I like him, oddly enough.

I'm not overly exited by Mahmood though he's not a bad player. I think that Kent really need a decisive opening bowler or killer spinner (there are just so many of those at the moment aren't there?) who is likely to be available for more than a couple of weeks here and there.

Since two divisions started in 2000 Kent have been the only county that have stayed up in the 1st Division for 8 years and including 2008 it will be 9 years.

9 - Kent
8 - Lancs, Surrey
7 - Sussex
6 - Hants, Warks, Yorks
4 - Durham, Leics, Middx, Somerset, Notts
2 - Essex, Glamorgan, Gloucs, Worcs, N'hants
1 - Derbys.

Has it really only been since 2000 when the 2 division split came into force? It seems longer than that.

Liking the addition of Mahmood, good player, may be a little rusty but a few winter net sessions will sort that out

That's because Kent are the best.
They just demonstrate it in odd ways sometimes.
