Ho Ho Ho MPT

But T20 glory is the nature of the beast.......

As I'm sure Colin thinks the order of importance of the season is ......

1. T20
2. Pro 40
3. Friends Provident - although not out by the end of the first week in May.
4. CC - but must not get relegated.

the benefit of course would to give us all a feel good factor at the end of the season

You had me going for a sec then MPT! The way pre-season's gone it could have happened - sort of.

Priority has to be twenty20 as we're hosting it and i don't think we're nearly bad enough to go down in the championship, especially with our batting line-up. We might not win too many games but we should get loads of draws at least.

The coach we could/should have had is out in New Zealand winning things, whilst we get a controversial New Zealander who seems to be taking us nowhere fast.

Oh, the irony!

Hi Kim

I have indeed posted my thoughts too....... and not unfair ones ! I have also posted some thoughts on the Wisden thread

Where are those membership packs For the record the first report in 2006 was on Saturday, 1 April, at 9:14 a.m. and in 2005 it was on Wednesday, 6 April, at 11:13 a.m. according to my notes ;-)

For those who don't like to visit the OS site this is an interesting topic - along with other players. A brief synopsis....

WB
……………. Bears Legend and hopefully has still got some great performances left him. But from mid summer the decline was sadly too obvious and I worry that this is a season perhaps too far. Given the size of our squad we must stick with a winning squad and not rotate like last season. So depending on results and injuries we may or may not see much of Dougie this season. Its the coach's call.... but its always going to be an emotional issue. The results and the team must be greater than any individual. I do hope for a few more golden moments, but not at the expense of him just having a seat in a team at someone elses expense.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kim
Seems as if not many expect the seam bowler who, in 2006, had statistically his best season since 1999 and had the best average and strike rate of all our regular quicks last year, to play much in 2007. Hmmm. Still, being the seamer with the best economy rate in the C&G managed to lose Dougie his one day place in 2006 so nothing would surprise me.
Where Dougie has fallen away a bit over the last two years is with the bat - but he's not alone in this and still averaged 20 which is better than, or nor far off, the results of at least 4 of the contenders for a batting only place in 2007.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WB

Good observation Kim. One that leaves me deep in thought - again ;-)
It would be interesting to review the statistics in current form slices across last season, as what I saw and what is in print for the whole season do not equate. His performances declined to a point that during the Middlesex CC game in July, many members seemed embarrassed late on that last Sunday session. I'm afraid our all rounder had little umph in 2006 - but to be fair - most of our team didn't. Perhaps your point raises the interesting question 'have his performances, with some notable exceptions, been generally declining since his golden period up to 1999'. I doubt it...... but I am surprised that 2006 was statistically his best season this millennium. You raise an interesting question......

As if by magic:

Saturday will be the last day for members to renew for 2007 and to ensure they avoid incurring the additional £25 charge.

The offices will be open from 9.00a.m until 3.00p.m to give members the chance to visit or telephone ensuring their membership is guaranteed for the season ahead.

With the first XI away in Grenada and our first fixture against Lancashire just 21 days away the Membership Office has been inundated this week.

Nigel Webster, Head of Membership Services, said, “This week everyone has realized that the cricket season is nearly upon us and we have been busy processing renewals. With such demand, it is only right that we provide members with the opportunity to renew before Saturday’s deadline. We will have a full compliment of staff in from 9.00a.m and we look forward to seeing members as they sign up for what we hope will be a successful season for the Bears.”

Apparently we have also re-signed David Hemp, ITV's teletext mentioned Warwickshire's David Hemp as being top scorer for Bermuda!

Maybe it is the infamous sub-editor problem, that the newspapers suffer from. They are just handed the info and told to get on with it, alot of the time they haven't a clue what they are writing.

Well I finally signed up this morning, not very impressed. The OS front page proclaims Save £25, so I ask why have I been charged £135 instead of £110?
The answer because you're not paying the late fee. So the £25 saving is not a saving at all and you don't get it.

This is not the first time the club has been involved in dodgy dealings. Sometime ago the Marketing Direcetor sent out raffle tickets for the Junior Bears to sell, only problem you have to be over 16 to sell tickets. Then there was the time when Butler had the new sponsors logo stitched onto the old tracksuits. Plus the theft that goes on at every international when the brainless wonders confiscate things and are kept. When they should be returned to their owners. How much more of this are we going to have to put up with?

Well theres the one day replica shirt scam......

We were told (and it is also written in the clubs Sunday programe notes of a Totesport game in 2005) that one day replica shirt designs would last two seasons..... This is clearly not true and a breach of consumer law as in effect the club had a contract with the supporters that it chose to put in writeing... The next new shirt was due in 2008. Any way people only get caught out once

The new shirts have a design flaw anyway...... I prefer dark blue. Anything with light coulours 'lights' the fielders up to the oppo batsmen. In poor light or a big crowd it is easy to spot them on the boundary. Take the Bears v Worcs T20 game - we were regularly caught on the boundary - they could spot our out field players. Who thought up bannana yellow...... ?

Anyway its squad numbers or names on the back of the CC shirts this season. As a cash cow, I wounder will the squad numbers be available in the club shop for the the new white CC shirts - or I wounder is it going to be names on the back and the letters available at £ 3.50 each ? Timothy Groenewald at 17 letters may get selected on a few more occasions

Watch out for money making rackets

Aternoon all .... Didn't take long....... Money, Money, Money ! Anyway if you've got some money left after paying your subs then....

Why not join the Warwickshire squad in the pre-season celebrations at Edgbaston?

With the preparations well underway at Edgbaston for our first match in April, the annual Pre-Season Dinner will be held on Thursday 12th April at Edgbaston and is the only way to welcome the season in style!

The intimate setting will allow all guests to feel part of this prestigious Club during its 125th Anniversary Year as there will be a member of the playing staff on each table.

All the playing squad will be present to meet and mingle with guests and every table will be joined by a Warwickshire player who will no doubt be happy to discuss cricket and their plans and aspirations for the season ahead.

There will be no better way for any cricket fan to start the season in the presence of all the Warwickshire Bears including Dennis Amiss who will be presenting the first ever ‘Dennis Amiss Spirit Of Cricket Award’ to one of last season’s key players.

The evening will begin with a welcome from Chief Executive, Colin Povey, followed by a superb 4 course meal accompanied by speeches from Club Captain, Heath Streak and Director of Coaching Mark Greatbatch. This really will be an exclusive insight into the ambitions and targets of such a focused team.

Tickets for this fantastic evening cost just £70 per person (or £700 for a table of 10)
