David Saker has been appointed as the head coach of Melbourne Renegades. Surely England aren't just going to let him run down his contract? They should be looking to appoint a new man before the start of the English summer.

England would still have to pay him for the remainder of his contract.

I'm well aware of that (unless he has broken a clause in talking to the Renegades whilst under contract to England) but the performance of England's bowlers over the past year or so is such that he deserves to be sacked. The slower ball bouncer was pretty innovative back in 2010 but not now.

He is going to be with England for the WI and NZ only. Someone new will take over for the Ashes.

Cottam
Dilley
Shine
Cooley
Donald
Gibson
Saker

Gaurdian
Moores will also make a decision on whether the bowling coach, David Saker, who has agreed to take over as the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades Big Bash side in his native Australia next winter, will go on tour. Saker, who joined the set-up in 2010, had previously told the England and Wales Cricket Board he would not be extending his contract beyond its expiry in September.

But you also know as well as I do that it's not that easy in sport. Gus Poyet was sacked today by Sunderland yet will leave with a big, fat payoff. The ECB would still have to pay him something (if not the whole value of his remaining contract).

personally, I'd not replace the MD and have two bowling coaches for the summer, one of whom would be on gardening leave.

I agree. It wouldn't be ideal to bring in the new man immediately before the Ashes. Although you'd think that our experienced bowlers should be able to cope on their own. Or: they might be better on their own without whatever nonsense Saker has been feeding them with these past couple of years.

The Kiwis know a good dibbly-dobbly bowler when they see one!

Telegraph

The job of fast bowling coach could change in the long term with a review of the England set up currently taking place with the possibility of streamlining to save money.

There is a view that the job could be combined with the fast bowling coaching position at the ECB academy in Loughborough which is currently filled by Kevin Shine.
---

I don't think Shine wants to travel if the ECB were to pick him.

I think that previously the coach chose the staff he wanted. Moores picked Flower as batting/assistant coach, Gibson as bowling coach and Mushy as spin coach.

Wasn't Gibson head coach of the Windies? It seems like a backwards step going from head coach to bowling coach.

Who knows, he could be positioning himself nicely for a quick promotion. If things don't go well in the Windies and Graves pulls the trigger on Moores, he'd be candidate for caretaker head coach. Flower got the job that way.

Will be interesting to see if any of these leave now. Strauss and the new coach will probably want to bring their own men in.

I wonder if Bayliss will bring in his own staff. Farbrace has been confirmed as staying on but Gibson's contract is up soon.

I saw a picture of Trevor Bayliss giving a team talk today and I counted 30 people in England kit. Considering we only have 12 players in the squad that is 18 back room staff. Bayliss, Farbrace, Gibson, Ramprakash, French and the physio is all we need. I remember Moores saying on match days he wants only the squad in the dressing room so the players are not distracted.

18 back room staff. What ever for? What do they do all day?

Chief coach, assistant chief coach, batting coach, fast bowling coach, medium pace bowling coach, spin bowling coach, close fielding coach, deep fielder coach, body and conditioning specialist + assistant, psychologist, faith consultants (3). media consultant, 13th man, brown noser, deputy brown noser.
Seriously it's a scandal that so many back room staff are employed. As what they do all day, I expect they're checking on their inflated bank balances.

Do we know what Andy Flowers' role is yet?
