I think Old Trafford have an Ashes test in 2019 so they would miss out on 2023 in any case.

Sounds plausible. I agree with the opinion(s) that the Ashes should be shared between Lords, the Oval, Trentbridge, OT, Edgbaston and Headingly. Everything else doesnt quite sit right.

Major match allocation for 2020-24 announced along with the anticipated / predictable T20 venues:

1 test less a summer but Lords still gets its full quota. You can take the ECB out of the MCC......

Unless I've missed something it seems Cardiff and Southampton won't get any tests for the next few years.

What did they do to incur the wrath of the ECB?

I read that Cardiff didn't go in for any Tests, but will get plenty of T20 games they can't even sell out. Southampton will feel most miffed I'd have thought, judging from the article the other day where it seemed like they'd get an Ashes Test.

Glamrgan were paid 1 million by the ECB not to bid for any Tests in the five year period.

It seems they were swindled out of an even bigger payment, as it has now emerged that each Test match venue is being compensated 500,000 for each year they have not been awarded a Test between 2020 and 2024.

Hampshire are getting 2.5 million, as the Ageas hasn't been granted a single Test. Glamorgan should have bid and hoped they didn't get a Test - then they would have been eligible for 2.5 mliiion, like Hants.

Smart work by the ECB to buy them off on the cheap. Durahm have lost out on an even grander scale (although that case is rather different as they rather brought it upon themselves...)

Do Durham still host ODIs and T20s? I still can't believe Cardiff even got awarded international status. Truly one of the dodgiest deals in ECB history.

Cheers Aidan. I always liked the look of Chester-le-Street as a cricket ground. A decent facility with a nice backdrop too, it's a shame what happened there.
