More worryingly Ball seems to be out bowling him - both suffering in comparison to Pattinson!

Good to see Joe Clarke with a hundred.

He's had a tough season so far.

Gary Ballance at it again.

53* and batting with the no.11.

Currently averaging 111.42 for the season.

Jake Ball to me definitely has something that means he can improve. Probably needs to be stronger and have a little more stamina but there is plenty to work with.

I agree Chin. He seems to have gone forward since first being selected? Unless Anderson finds his mojo he is likely to be busy in Australia!

With regards to test cricket, I watched him bowl in Mumbai and I thought he actually looked pretty good despite bowling on a pitch that had very little in it for the seamers. Australia might not be the worst place for him to tour given that I reckon you will find a spate of pitches with pace and bounce as they try to ensure there is plenty for messrs Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Pattinson to work with.

He's not had such a great recent time in ODIs but he's still learning his game there and don't feel bound to judge him.

Stuart Broad only bowled one over today (second change). Is he injured?

Ball certainly looked quick against Leicestershire today - no jokes. He'll be in the mix for Lord's especially as Woakes is injured. Will Wood be risked in Tests? I'd like to think he could manage at least two of the Ashes Tests Down Under, the Gabba and WACA preferably!

Realistically there aren't many spots open are there? Anderson and Broad will play if fit, so will Stokes, Moeen and Rashid. That leaves Ball and Wood fighting over one spot.

On what basis is Rashid a definite?

Would've definitely been left in the T20 squad if he wasn't playing the first test.

Yeah that's what I think as well, can't see Woakes making it back for the first test although Jimmy looks like he will be.

I'm going to take a guess and say Rashid,Broad, Ball and Andersen will be our 8,9,10,11 for the first test.

Woakes is out of the first two tests at least.

Joe Clarke is back - 110* after 140 in the first innings. Gwan saaan.

Anderson also bowled Lancs to an innings win against Hants. Good news for England.
