I reckon if Atherton had played a few years later he would have had an average similar to Cook now and vice versa as I think Cook would have had serious issues with a number of the quicks of the 90s. His record for the era he played in wasn't too bad.

Makes sense. When any Sportsperson comes back from injury or a break they are likely to get injured due to a lack of match practice.

Can't believe how good Matt Henry is and he is not going to the 20/20 World Cup. Then there is Rahman from Bangladesh who has only played 9 matches 26 wickets 2.88 wickets per game against India, SA and Zim. That's likely to change as he plays for longer.

Brett Lee 1.71, Akram 1.41, McGrath 1.52, Gough 1.47, Donald 1.65.
Of those who have taken 150+ wickets only two bowlers have a s/r of under 30. Lee and Morkel.

You would have to say that New Zealand have the best bowling attack with Henry, Boult, McClenaghan all taking their wickets at over 1.70. Next best would be Australia Starc 1.95, Hazelwood 1.58 (17) Cummins 1.83 (18).

Maybe these days bowlers have so many variations but I can't believe that bowlers in the past didn't have them as well. Also could be that batsmen are more attacking. We now have totals of 350s and 400s.

During the 10/11 Ashes England got the ball to reverse as early as the 11th over in one Test. When the Australians next came to England all the fast bowlers were hiding the ball in their run up, something new. Only Harris was able to hide it until the last minute but he didn't do it all the time.

In fairness 1000ys you should have removed the later edition Tremlett and Bresnan from the list of 'fast bowlers' in terms of the pace that they bowled. Indeed Tremlett jacked it in last year in any case.

Our bowlers really all bowl at the same pace, anything from 80-90. They can all get it up to 90-93 but no one bowls at over 90mph consistently. Our fastest is Stokes.

Pakistan's stable of quicks doesn't look bad either.
