I think it's fair to say that both of their careers for England have now come to a close and that Geraint Jones won. Well done Readites, it was a good battle, but your boy lost in the end. There's no shame in it. He was just beaten by the better wicketkeeper on the day.

Bloody hell, is the England match THAT bad?

Edit: Obviously I'm using the term "England" very very loosely indeed.

Ain't that the truth?

It never went away. All arguments in life, all arguments in the world can be boiled down to Read or Jones. All of them.

It seems clear to me, at least on evidence so far, that Read would have been a better performer than Prior in this WC campaign, had he been selected.

Which thus means that Jones would've been even better. He should be picked for the ODI side this summer.

It is long enough since he played for England that he could now have a go playing for whatever division of the World Cricket League that Papua New Guinea play in. That would be his standard. I was going to suggest that Read could play for an independent Cornwall but understand he's from Devon so wouldn't count.

On reflection it appears to me that the selection of Prior over Davies for this World Cup is where all England's problems started and he is thus the cause of the whole débacle - although it's not Prior's fault he was chosen, of course.

Prior was picked to open and it didn't work. This led to Pietersen being moved to the top of the order, which in itself was a moderate success. But Prior didn't work down the order either.

After 3 games opening the batting Pietersen decided he was too unfit to continue and buggered off home.

The coach and captain played silly games with the media and probably the players (did any of them know what was happening?), moved Prior to open again and again, naturellement, it didn't work.

Plus he's been dire with the gloves.
