I think there's a feeling that you should retire the moment you feel it's going to be downhill from now on. That way you also leave the fans wanting more. Leave it to the selectors who keep trying to squeeze more out of you and the fans ask what you are still doing there.

[This is about players in general, it obviously isn't Trott's situation]

Just watched the verdict and Trott mentioned his school was close to Newlands. I hadn't realised he went to Rondebosch. I have only been to SA once but that was on sports tour. For some reason we ended up visiting Rondebosch and going to some lessons which was a bit odd considering it was a girls hockey and netball tour. Just realised I could well have been sat in the same lesson as a teenage Trott.
