The worst thing is people think the Sports Personality of the Year matters in some way.

Is it on TV, perchance?

It's at the Belfast SSE Arena, so it must be important.

I was listening to Radio X in the car on Monday morning when the sports news, sponsored by Sky Sports, came on. Eager to hear an update on England's progress in their second innings, I was disappointed that the only stories were the team "news" for the football later in the day and a recap on the previous evenings darts.

In the Pointless final a week or so ago the finalists were asked to name England cricketers born outside England. I think they won with Matt Prior as a pointless answer but they also named Ian Bell, thinking he might have been Scottish.

I'd have gone for George Robert Canning Harris to make Richard's day.

Do you reckon the likes of Freddie Brown, Dexter and Jardine might have made the pointless list?

Perhaps an educated guess based upon his middle name?

Definitely Brown and Lord Ted. Jardine very probably.

Stokes gets on the front page and dominates the back 3 pages of the Metro today. That is some going for the general publicity cricket tends to get in that paper.

I'll smoke that. Especially as he is also clearly related to the new massive grey superbaddie with the collapsing face.

Don't know much about "Twitter".

Perhaps that statistic suggests I'm not missing very much.

Rooney has more followers than Tendulkar and Kohli, which surprised me a little.

Is it the quality of the badinage that makes him such a popular correspondent?
