As a no.7 it is a little hard to judge Prior on how many innings he goes without a century because he can often be stuck with the tail or that an innings could be declared before he has the opportunity to get 3 figures. That he has as many tons as he has is testament enough to how good a player he is for a wicket-keeper batsman.

I don't thiink people would be worried by the frequency of Prior's centuries. We know where he bats in the order and that on occasion he needs to bat towards a declaration. He is a very unselfish batsman. Far from judging Prior it's more likely that other batsmen will be judged against him.

It signifies how I love looking up stats when bored. You should be able to work it out

Yep.

Another reason to pick on Trott - not pulling his weight in the field.

Why does Collingwood keep appearing with his name struck through? He's never going to play for England again so could be left off the list.

1. He still plays for Durham
2. It's a benchmark

Perhaps Ramprakash, Key, Hoggard and Sidebottom should be added to the list? Not to mention Carberry and Shahzad.

What's playing for Durham got to do with it? Not sure what you mean by a benchmark but fair enough.

You posted earlier what looks like an update but it is incorrect. After 2 innings in this match shouldn't it be like this for the players concerned?

Prior 14
Cook 13
Bell 11
Trott 4
Pietersen 3
Strauss 1

Safe to cross Morgan off the list, surely? (Edit: oh, you have. Ignore me, sorry.)

Not outs don't count as completed innings.

Ah that explains it. I thought it was just innings without a century regardless of not outs. My apologies.

But when the media seize on the fact that a batsman hasn't made a century for X innings, are they taking not outs into consideration?

Prior 16
Bell 14
Collingwood 14
Bopara 10*
Trott 9
Morgan 7
Strauss 6
Cook 3
Pietersen 1

Neither Taylor nor Bairstow have a test hundred yet (1 and 3 innings respectively)

*Bopara has been dropped twice by the selectors since his last test hundred.

As I said earlier in the thread it is a little hard to judge Prior given the position that he bats in, although he has got out a couple of times very carelessly when well set, the Oval springing to mind.

Are you now trying to insinuate that Ravi was dropped following his two brainless shots to get out at the Oval rather than his reported pulling out for personal reasons?

Agreed on Prior, although I think it's vaguely interesting to see how long it's been. He averages 32 since his last century. A little disappointing considering his ability, but acceptable considering that's only half his job.

Ravi was dropped by the selectors, IIRC, after Australia and India. He was unavailable rather than dropped for the last test. And for all you fact fans out there, he was also the last player prior to Capey to be dropped having scored a century in his previous match.

Oh I see, he was basically filling in for Trott while he was injured last summer. I presume with the century you allude to was in the Windies 09, when he was left out for a bowler in the final game of that series?

I dont expect Ravi to be dropped after scoring a test 100 again.
