Well there was always a chance of him getting to 3 figures.

Rather more effort expended discussing it really.

Given that we all seem to feel that our batting has been very wobbly of late, it's not long at all since even our apparently out of form batsmen last got tons. I suppose the problems have been at number 6 (composite time since a number 6 got a ton would probably require a much larger angry crowd) and that Bell hasn't got that many modestly good scores or that many tons, by comparison with his failures.

Compton may have been bumped, like this thread, but his test career isn't necessarily totally over. We'll know that only if one of the top 6 gets injured during the Ashes and they bring Bopara in. Or Morgan if his finger is better.

Well, if Ravi wants to move up the pecking order he has a good opportunity coming up...

Even without the injury Morgan is a country mile off further test recognition. He's not even been getting runs in his stronger formats. Think Bopara is below Taylor but certainly above Morgan.

Morgan still has a full England contract, doesn't he? Although I doubt if it will be renewed. Bopara did some good work in the CT but I agree unlikely to make a test comeback, although never say never.

Taylor ought to be getting some recognition.

My point was really that despite the talk of Compton continuing to score first class runs and being ready in the event of injury we'll know it was just talk if they go with one of these other players who have previously failed to impress.

Oh I think Compton's definitely the reserve and will come in if needed unless badly out of form by then.

Agree, Morgan would need at least a full County season behind him averaging 50+ to be even brought into the conversation for me in test cricket.

I reckon for the next Ashes series this winter, Taylor should defo make the squad and I wouldn't be surprise if Gary Ballance is taken over as well, just to put another name out there.

Taylor could get a chance if one or two certain players don't perform this Ashes series.

I think it's completed innings since their last test hundred Zebs, not matches.

Correct.

At what stage do we start worrying about Bairstow's lack of hundreds?
