He's gone well in the T20 format but I'm still surprised to see him ranked #1.

He's relentlessly consistent at the format though. Shame he's had no ipl experience, what with the last and next T20 WCs being in the sub-continent.

Hales is an exciting player. How do people rate his first-class game? I feel England could benefit from some positive scoring options at opener, we seem to have become type cast as boring as hell in the first three.

I think he averages about 15 in CC this Summer. Not really much of a success in the longer format, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

2 new white balls means most teams are boring in the first 3 overs.

Yes I was looking the other day at this seasons averages when I heard a few people saying he should get in the test team and low & behold Graham 'Bunny' Onions averages more than Hales in FC this season.

Wilful misunderstanding? You don't seem the type though... Fairly certain the reference to first-class means Cook-Root-Trott top order in test matches. Though I agree top 3 would have been a better term than first 3...

It's amazing that Hales' limited overs game bears no relation to his FC form. I'd almost be tempted to tell him to play his short-form game in the Championship. Can't do any worse.

I like Hales. He should be opening for England in ODIs as well.

Finch is the same. Sucks at the longer format.

Glad he got a T20 century after the 99 against the Windies.

Not sure he has done enough to deserve a Test call-up.

He's never ready for test cricket. That's common knowledge to Notts' fans.

Is anyone of any importance actually suggesting he is?

He hasn't been given one.

When people talk about replacements for Lyth his name always comes up. It shouldn't.

Reflects a paucity of options. He might well be the next best alternative.

He isn't the next best alternative because has neither the form or ability to succeed in Test cricket.

Form perhaps not, ability I would say he has. Who do you think are better alternatives?

I would go for Browne from Essex. A bit left field but someone who is in good form and has the potential to get better. Alex Lees would also be a decent option, it's a shame he hasn't found form this season or he would probably be playing now.
