Well I've made no secret that I'd like it to be Taylor. For a player of his age his achievements so far have been really outstanding. The way he plays is quite stunning to see as well.

Hildreth obviously has a lot of experience now. He is of a generation that is now finding Test openings in short supply. If he'd been born 10 years earlier he'd have probably clocked up a few games by now.

Also, what's happened to Michael Carberry?

Oh, a pulmonary embolus. He'll have to be on blood thinning treatment, which isn't ideal playing professional cricket, I wouldn't have thought. I suppose at least it's not rugby.

You've got to include Bopara in that equation. Since Morgan's injury he's now in pole position to impress and win back Flower.

It could also be Bresnan/Broad and move to 5 bowlers.

5 bowlers is risky in the long term, with the current make up of the England team. Strauss has hinted he is going to retire in 2014, and then you got Pietersen and Trott hitting 35 in 2015 and 2016 respectively. You'd really want to have one replacement batsman settled in the team by that time rather than having to rely on people who got the odd game as an injury replacement here or there.

We won the ashes with 5 batsman though so maybe that could be a route. Granted we only had four bowlers and a keeper but never mind.

I have to confess I have not been keeping much of an eye on the Lions tour but it seems that whenever I do look Hildreth and Kieswetter are in the runs. Is this just Somerset bias or are they doing well?

Well, the risk is that if you wait until Strauss' retirement to bleed a new batsman, you might have only two experienced batsmen left in 2016 (Cook and Bell) if the first batsman you pick turns out to be not as good as you thought.

Bopara has the perfect opportunity to nail down a place in both teams with a decent World Cup. No IPL distractions either so he can plunder a few hundreds before the Sri Lanka Tests (Morgan will be at the IPL I think?), with his bowling an additional bonus. It's his spot to lose methinks, which he is more than capable of doing, but I hope not, as much as I'd like to see Morgan playing in the winter on the subcontinent.

So the lack of bowling on both sides is one reason for the pointless rtun fest, have anyone seen any comment on the pitch? I'm presuming it's the same kind of dumpling as we played the majority of the last test series against them on.

Fair play to Taylor - he just keeps churning out the runs. Long may it continue.

Does anyone know when Woakes, Finn and Rashid will join up with the touring party? They should add a bit of bite to the attack.

Lyth
Adams
Gale
Hildreth
Taylor
Kieswetter
Rashid (Plunkett)
Woakes (Harris)
Briggs
Dernbach
Finn (Chambers)

I was listening to it on live radio coverage....

You can find the thread to such coverage in an earlier post of mine. The match against Trinidad is bound to get radio commentary.

Just answering a question, Rey!
