I am sick to death of the BCCI's intransigent, blinkered, self-serving, selfish, ante-diluvian, supremely arrogant stance on DRS. No system in the history of the world has ever been, nor ever will be, totally foolproof.

And I am sick to death of the BCCI, full stop. Will no-one stand up to this board that is intent on ruining cricket?

True, but cricket already faces an uphill battle due to it's somewhat anachronistic image globally. The DRS issue only reinforces that image.

I am interested that you said earlier that you are sympathetic to the BCCI stance - can you expand on this?

I just meant that I can understand where they're coming from. I can see the argument of getting the system more consistent before using it.

For various reasons, I don't agree with their stance, but I also wouldn't go as far as Michelle in condemning it.

Don't worry about her ddb, she's obviously been listening to the Aussie media too much.

Yeah, DRS point is fair enough, I guess, BCCI aren't exactly pioneers in PR simply as they couldn't give a **** most of the time. "Intent on ruining cricket" - not so understandable.

Ha, Conn apparently writes in "The Cricketer" in England now(or maybe he always has, don't know), God help us. Jingoistic idiots don't need more coverage.

Obviously you have no aspirations as a media baron.

I actually thought Conn wasn't too bad back in the day, but in the last 5 years or so he has gone from analytical to sensationalist. Then again that seems to be happening in all aspects of the media now. Anyway enough off topic blather...

Yeah, at least he sort of has a point behind it all, even his India articles do. Some of CI's recent stuff...well...

I think cricket does better out of using DRS in that in general the umpires are still respected and the debate focusses on enabling umpires to get the decisions right more often. In football, everyone from players, fans, managers and pundits just lambasts the referee (a la Alan Green "that's a shocker") and never empathises with the difficulty in making the decision. If TV replays were used and controversial decisions still occurred then no sensible debate could be held.
The other side to Alan Green is those commentators who always say it's a good decision. As exemplified by the pundits (IT Botham et al) who say good decision when hawkeye shows it was clipping and it was given not out and good decision when hawkeye shows it was clipping and the umpire had given it out.

The football commentary is particularly bad for sycophantic comments when it's a home nations ref.

Is it just as a result of listening to Gobsh!te Vaughan that you have launched this latest tirade, or is there some other occasion also?

No, those are my longstanding views, brought to the fore again because of BCCI's continued resistance to progress. I should have said that I am delighted that Vaughan agrees with me. Actually he agrees with me a lot more these days. He is turning into a decent pundit.

I don't think the BCCI are against progress, look at the IPL? Although some may say that the calling the IPL progress is akin to smashing a motorway through a leafy green village then telling the residents not to stand in the way of "progress".

Not wanting to get into another DRS debate but I wonder where the pot of gold is to fund the system for Pak, SL, Zim, Bang, WI. Maybe that needs to be sorted out, first.

As Bumble once said, if the Indians don't want to use it then they don't have to during the game, even if it is made mandatory for all Test matches. I just don't understand the logic of their stance at all.
