Sam Northeast batted well for Kent in a game where most batsmen have struggled. Scored his runs quite quickly as well.

Wrong thread

Vince still 11 runs behind KP then?

You don't see Northeast as a potential limited overs player then? Personally I don't think he'll be picked but he's a good potential option.

Nope. Missed the boat and plays at a county unlikely to have many batsmen make it.

KP is now batting in Surrey's second innings, looking to set up the declaration. So far 26* - I don't think he will want to throw away his wicket, despite the quest for quick runs.

Looks like Surrey settling for a draw here

Surrey have now declared, so KP picks up a red-inker. (Gives them around 55 overs to try and force a result)

They declared on him on 998 Championship runs for Surrey. Two more runs and he'd have been the quickest ever to 1000 for them, though he still has one more innings against Essex to beat Ramps's record.

In what was the kind of innings right up his street, Pietersen finished on 53* which gives him an average of 72. He needs just 2 more runs to reach 1000 for Surrey and if he gets them in the next game I think they said he will be the fastest Surrey batsman to achieve this landmark.

Presumably nobody was aware of this when the declaration was made.

They probably asked him, but KP selflessly said the team comes first.

Whilst in the time it would have taken to ask the question he could have hit those runs from the next delivery ......

Early days but Pietersen is averaging 72.00 compared to Vince's 13.50.

It must be a shame for the KP fanboys, hoping that all the promising young British batsmen outside the test team do badly until further notice ...

I see Taylor got in and out again.

Should we include Jason Roy in this discussion? It is difficult to compare averages because he played an attacking knock for his team rather than play for a not out.

Kumar had a strike rate of 148. Kp 76. One was playing for the team and the other was not. Imagine trott playing like that for a declaration. Lol.

What about fat sam?

9 wickets at 22
113 runs at 28.

We could prepare some turninh pitches vs Oz and have the following tail.
6. Stokes
7. Fat sam
8. Ali
9. Buttler
10. Rashid
11. Jimmy.

It would stop us all complaining about broad.

I'm not hoping the promising young British batsmen fail, but I am hoping that we can get Sir Virgs shaking with rage.

I don't think Roy's a candidate for the test team at this stage, but I'd definitely have him in the one-day set up. I might have mentioned this once or twice over the winter.

Capey was scoring at the rate Trott scores at in ODIs. Obviously it's a lot easier to runs quicker in ODIs where umpires are a lot stricter on wides, bowlers can bowl unlimited overs and there are field restrictions so captains can't put everyone back.
