Third Test underway with India batting. Going a bit like the first test with the SA bowlers pegging the hosts back to 121/5. Morkel has three.

The track is a lot like the first test's too. It's already turning a long way and probably won't get to day 4, although if does, the ball will be doing all sorts.

Morkel stepping up well in Steyn's absence, but I don't have much confidence in SA's batting on this pitch. Should be over quickly.

I am not sure if these pitches are the best way forward for Indian team, though. I don't mind turning tracks, but to have the ball reversing by the 19th over due to the abrasive surface is a bit too much. Also, I thought I saw Murali Vijay getting warned for running in the middle of the pitch, and it was the first session of the first day.

Slightly off topic, what happens if a batsman gets warned 2-3 times for running in the middle of the pitch? Is he stopped from running for the remainder of his innings? Or is he given out? After all, a bowler gets taken off with a similar number of warnings, right?

Played out as expected, SA lost a wicket in the few overs before close (and a nightwatchman).

Again there was a heck of a lot of ordinary batting, although I think that this pitch had a bit more in it than the Mohali test as there was a bit of uneven bounce. It is all on the first 2 sessions tomorrow.

Last time South Africa played only two frontline seamers in a Test was v SL at Moratuwa in 1993 (Donald/Schultz).

Making the same mistake England made in the Pakistan series.

Possibly but in fairness, their spinners did a reasonable, if not exceptional job and a third seamer probably wouldn't have done better, given that they're already missing two of their top three. This pitch makes the UAE ones look like total featherbed straight oners. The ball is turning like a top by the end of day 1 and the bounce has started to go a bit variable too.

This game is nigh on as good as over. Re FAF shot - wtf was he doing, that was basically an impersonation of IR Bell against the turning ball!

Morkel seems to be SA's best spinner

We will win in saffer land. They won't mind though because they have a franchise t20 competition played in empty grounds so they are fine.

Well they've had that competition for twelve years but perhaps you've only just noticed because your obsession with ***** has meant it's only come across your radar this year.

Kohli-esque. India might as well declare and fit the last test in now.

The Trent Bridge wicket was rightly slated after the India Test in 2014. This wicket must also be heavily criticised and a similar punishment meted out. It's shocking.

If SA win this test then good luck Mr Gorsky.

I noticed it last year when Craig kieswetter was struggling. It is odd that with a successful franchise competition that none of Oz, India (since iPL) and South Africa have won the t20 World Cup though.

South Africa look woeful. I am pretty confident that we will have too much for them. If AB struggles then we win.
