Pakistan v England ODIs & T20s

Pakistan ODI squad

Azhar Ali (captain), Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Younus Khan, Shoaib Malik, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Anwar Ali, Amir Yamin, Yasir Shah, Zafar Gohar, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, Rahat Ali, Bilal Asif.

I see Junaid Khan doesn't make the squad. Is he injured?

4. Root
5. Morgan
6. Buttler
7. Billings
8. Rashid
9. Plunkett
10. Woakes
11. Topley

WOuld be the strongest, but I'd be tempted to rest Buttler and Root who have been near ever present in a world cup and Ashes year.

England v HK

Surprised there's not a thread on this.

Hales going well.

This is England's sole warm-up match before the ODI series. I'll probably change this into a thread for that series after the Hong Kong match is over.

Shouldn't that say 8.124?

Taylor's strike-rate a concern again. Let him concentrate on tests.

Well played Hales and Moeen.

Interesting take by David Hopps http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-...ry/938581.html . I didn't realize HK now have ODI status, but since they do, I would agree that the game ought to have been played as an ODI.

A bit of a random match really, I'm not sure what serious preparation it was meant to provide. I didn't realise Hong Kong actually had an XI-a-side team.

Even more interesting follow up on twitter about it.

The ECB's official spokesmen - Paul Newman of the Daily Mail and John Etheridge of the Sun - furiously denied it as in Newman's words there wasn't "any reason to doubt them", ignoring both their track of record of lying and the mulititude of reasons why HK would say that.

Hopps followed up that he was "utterly sick" of it, having put up with this attitude for 35 years.

It's Pietersen-gate and Death of a Gentleman all over again.

Is that you Beefy? HK have full ODI status.

I suppose we should at least be grateful that you haven't posted a cock shot.

Agreed. He is a very marginal selection at best in ODI cricket. I suspect he is playing at 5 because Pakistan will have a least 2 spinners bowling through the middle overs and he is seen as one of the better players of spin. However, for me, he either bats at 3 or he shouldn't play. England could easily slot Moeen in at 5 and play Billings at 7, where he showed such promise over the summer.

Roy Hales Root Morgan Moeen Buttler Billings Woakes Rashid Willey Topley

I'd swap Woakes and Willey in that batting line-up and probably shift Moeen up, but where would depend on circumstances.

Is there not some merit in experimenting with Willey opening? If he doesn't then he is batting so low down that half the skills he is getting chosen for are not being utilised.
