Stokes I think. England 231-4 with Taylor closing in on a century (after which I assume he will retire out).

I've just seen Hales' dismissal and it wasn't pretty - leaving a straight ball.

Stokes 50 and Taylor closing in on a ton. Good for Stokes as I think he needed a decent knock after the injury and he's not done a great deal with the bat of late (granted he couldn't move in the last Test against Pakistan).

Thought Taylor would have retired at 100.

Still no retirements. 120 off 105. If only they will have this freedom against Steyn, Morkel etc. I haven't heard of a player going past 100 in the warm-up game. Are the others going to have a chance of a bat?

Taylor has retired now to give Bairstow a bat. Stokes continues but I expect he will retire shortly to give Moeen a bat.

SA XI have got their declaration bowlers on. Hopefully they will take the new ball and bring their opening bowlers back on.

Pretty good day for England. Good time in the middle for everyone bar the openers, and a nice healthy run-rate.
I expect England will declare overnight; I expect, too, that the 9 who batted today will be our top 9 for the first test, in that order.

I agree it was a good day for England, particularly Stokes who needed time in the middle more than most. I would be inclined to give Ali and Woakes a bit more batting practice in the morning (1 hour max).

Yes, think you're right. Neither has had a load of recent batting. If one gets out, Broad at least ought to be allowed a hit too.

It's a bit of a joke match, 13 aside, and we still didn't get to see Ballance bat. Games like this are like football friendlies with unlimited substitutes, a total waste of time for everyone and particularity anybody foolish enough to buy a ticket.

Apart from that, well done Stokes.
