Towards the end of the article it says that England's coaching staff have been drilling Hales in the art of the leave. I guess it's a bit of a learning curve on that one.

The BBC sport team have no concept of retired out. They seem to think Stokes and Taylor are going to bat on today.

I think the poster is more threatened by someone with potential to take Ballance's pervceived position..... Maybe.

Twice, but I'm sure he won't benefit from such fortune when the real matches come around.

66-5 now with Woakes, Footitt and Stokes getting a scalp each. Stefan pointed out that the opposition wasn't expected to be much cop and it clearly isn't.

Indeed. I don't see England enforcing the follow on though - I think Cook will opt for further batting practice for himself, Hales, Root and Bairstow.

I don't see too much of an issue with these 13 aside matches if they're taken as what they are - practice with whites on.

Hope the next two matches have a bit more of a competitive edge to them.

There's only one more practice match before the first test Azzy. The opposition is expected to be quite a bit better.

My apologies, I assumed there was two more. Really isn't ideal preparation for a big Test series but such seems to be the way of things these days!

130-7 now. Anderson has a bowl but he is wicketless.

It seems like Hales is having a real grinder of an innings. 4 off 34 in his second dig. Cook is having far less trouble as he moves into the high 20s.

A chance for Cook and Compton to bat together again after all this time. And it lasted all of 8 balls.

Why have they picked Hales for the test arena? He's shocking.

Hands up who's worried about Alex Hales versus Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel?
