World T20 Championship (General)

Draw made today. England face Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and a qualifier. That's all three most recent winners in the same group.

Ireland and Scotland are in separate qualification groups but one imagines they will struggle to progress as only the winner does.

Nevertheless I think that's a cracking draw for us to avoid India, Pakistan, Australia, NZ and Bangladesh.

We beat Pakistan in their own back yard so why not. Our spin twins will see us through.

Always good value this competition, and so hard to pick a winner.

When do we get to announce our squad, including, potentially, He Who Shall Not Be Named?

I think that by definition anyone of whom that can truthfully be said, won't be in the squad.

Can someone remind me of the point of the provisional 30 man squad? IIRC the final 15 man squad is not restricted to those in the provisional squad. It's a waste of everyone's time.

You can't take the 30 man squad away, what would we have to talk about otherwise? 1000ys would be particularly bereft

8th March.

So two months till it starts and no provisional squads named today. Maybe it will just be the 15 for each team named in 1 month's time.

Or this isn't going to happen?

You have to wonder exactly why Brendon McCullum's retirement is planned just before this event?

The broadcaster or Beatles fan?

His dad is from NZ and Chapman is expected to play for them. He's supposed to be a bit special

That's a very strong Windies squad again, though possibly a quick bowler short of winning it.
