Yay for the mediocre bowlers in for their batting.

That is a big guess by the umpire.

If only compo had gone for it yesterday then we could be 130 all out.

Our strong lower order batting not really doing the job here, is it?

To be fair two cracking deliveries but woakes needs to do better. Not sure he gives AB out for that one.

Unnecessarily exposed to the new ball.

Exactly. Well, had held the innings together. Swann went on and on about it and I understand he did the same all day yesterday.

It would have been lucky to get two feathers in a row though.

You mean Stokes? Or our best spinner? Or reserve for Anderson who's been picked for his bowling?

They'd have been unnecessarily exposed to the new ball if Compton had played a few more shots earlier and got out long before they got to the new ball.

I fear he has completely undone all his hard work with one bad shot. Not play it, he gets a century and England push towards 400 but now we'll struggle to reach 280. Could be a match turner.

Steyn is not fit. If compo had not got out then we would have been cruising. Darn it.

Steyn won't play Cape Town and second innings won't be easy for steyn.

Come on Stuart. Let's have one of those fun sessions.

Recent opener exposed to the new ball shame...

The "power" order had flat batteries.

Didn't hear Swann and think being critical of Compton's innings is a bit silly. Being concerned that he's not got the range of scoring to cut it long term in tests is a different and far more valid criticism. He's done well for England this innings, amidst a pretty serious lack of other scores from the top 4. As always though, a few scores above 40 doesn't get a side enough first innings runs.

Balanced and focused MF, balanced and focused.

Although maybe a little less of a focus on Compton and look also at Stokes?

No, not really. He bowled three great balls in a row. Lucky would've been if Woakes had slogged a full toss down midwicket's throat.

By your definition every edge behind would be "lucky".

Of course he was lucky that the lbw was given. It was as borderine as possible.

FS - what was the spread when we lost the toss? I would guess about 280?

For Sir Virgs that would be the straw-man that broke the camel's back.
