I got up at 7:50. No alarm required, it just happens when there's cricket on.

Lets see how we bowl before casting final.judgement on SA.

For reference, Stokes has now overtaken Flintoffs highest score and is on course to pass Sir Ian Bothams highest of 208.

Last day of the holidays. 5:50 tomorrow will be unpleasant and unlike UAE I won't be able to listen to cricket on my way to work.

No need to think about it until perhaps near tea and that will be dependent on whether or not they lose wickets and/or lose significant momentum. I wouldn't bother making Anderson or Finn bat. Summer Stokes has now gone past Ames.

Re Amla, I reckon the extent of Pietersen's captaincy, in telling bowlers to ******* bowl straight (allegedly) seems revolutionary compared to the listless efforts on show today.

And an absolute pleasure to behold. I can't think there were too many longer standing Test records.

Just read that Compton holds the record for most runs in a session with 173, so Stokes will be well short of that.

That's Dennis Compton, not Nick in case anyone was confused.

To think how nervous I was that Stokes would add the 26 needed for a hundred...

Fastest double hundred by an English player. Second fastest ever. What can yoy say?

I'm afraid that George Dobell article of yesterday is looking more than a bit daft. I agree that you need people to graft in the top order of a test side. Yet England have that with Cook and Compton and despite his billing, Hales did so in his knock yesterday. What was actually more disappointing and where GD was correct, was that England were a little reckless in many of those players getting out when they were well set.

However to deny several of the players from playing in the manner to how they accustomed, be it Compton or Stokes is just plain wrong.

That is the most fantastic morning of cricket that I have ever watched.

Stokes just brilliant and the excellent Bairstow a fabulous support.

Well done England!

Perhaps the Saffers should have a ginger quota in the team.
