How to convey that I have read your post and decided not to dignify it with a reply unless I tell you so, thus generating a reply?

That will suffice. My deliberate crassness merited your stern ignorance.

Were you there too? Gary Kirsten's innings sticks in my mind. He got all the way to a century, yet I can't remember him playing a single attacking shot. Forward defensives all the way.

Really? A bowling average pushing 40 over 20 matches doesn't seem much like success to me.

That's also the reason no-one much remembers Kirsten is one of the few batsmen to take a ton against every other Test nation!

don't worry Monde is playing himself into the squad for the summer so expect more of these fun and games.

I saw that game also, Kirsten certainly was at his stubborn best for that one and he was certainly one who made the most of what he had.

God that was a horrible game for an England fan. At least losing the current test against Sri Lanka hasn't been without some real flair and brilliance from the opposition batsmen. I suppose Zondeki's innings was full of flair and only a genius could have managed that many plays and misses.

Double debut next Test - Swann and Broad?

Even though Harmison is supposed to be fit again can they take that chance.

Cook, Vaughan, Bell, Shah, Collingwood, Bopara, Prior, Swann, Broad, Sidebottom, Panesar

Monde has not hit a 50 since or one before that even!

certainly made my day though you can't begrudge him sending a little kid home smiling!

If there's no Hoggard? They'd be insane not to. Broad is the bigger gamble.

I'd forgotten that fact.

(Might never have known it actually. Thanks.)

Kirsten certainly wasn't the most entertaining player but by god did he hold the Saffer batting line up together and a ton against all test playing nations says it all. Sangers has now done that too.

Both could even play, or indeed neither. Can't see Anderson retaining his place though. England lacked Hoggard for a large percentage of the second innings, and Anderson was way off the pace, Sidebottom didn't bowl badly and Panesar was pretty much the same. As has been said before, we missed Flintoff.

I think the assumption is that Hoggard won't be fit. If that's the case, I like the look of FBU's bowling line up.

It's a tough one whether to choose Harmison or not. I feel he deserves a chance, certainly I wouldn't have chosen him for the first test, but Anderson hasn't done enough to retain his place in my opinion. Part of me also says that Harmison has had enough chances, but if you aren't going to pick him for the next test then he is effectively the 5th choice seam bowler.

The only hope is that he is somewhat chastened by being left out and knows that he has to pull his socks up. His I've got 200 test wickets comments wore somewhat thin last year after the winter and its time he looked at trying to get at least another 100. Remember only 2 English bowlers have done that(got more than 300 wkts).
