why can't Leicestershire keep hold of their players? First Luke Wright, then Maddy, Masters and now Broad. With Snape and Nixon being ancient, within a couple of years they might actually have a whole team of non-English players

Anybody else find the BBC headline: England star Broad to join Notts somewhat overhyped?

In what way? The lad's just turned 21, 6' 5", already bowling at a brisk pace, knows how to handle a bat, and comes across as a bright, level headed, likeable chap. Throw in his appeal to the ladies and media and if anything I'd say he's under-hyped.

Maybe he should have moved to Hollywood.

I like him but I wonder why his interviews saying he wants to play test cricket get such prominence? Surely all the bowlers on the fringe of the England side want to do so?

Also, I'm surprised that he thinks he needs to move from Leicestershire to a higher profile county in order to have more chance with England. His talent has been acknowledged, he's in the ODI side and he's been in the England test squad. Being at Notts won't get him into the England team - only other bowlers losing form or getting injured will do that. Players usually move to more prominent counties when they want to make themselves better known and give themselves a better chance, but Broad is already known and has every chance. I feel a bit sorry for Leics, and I'm sure that being an "unfashionable" county is far less of a drawback to selection than people think. The selectors go to all the grounds, after all.

In my case, from one of my most hated sides to my second-favourite side. P.S. I don't just like 'em for Chris Read, but it helps. Actually I quite like a fair few of their players, and the way they play their cricket.

You don't often here the words Notts and fashionable in the same sentence do you?

I am sure that money is much more of a motivator for young Mr Broad - it isn't as though he has lacked national recognition whilst at Leicestershire.

But when he gets an England contract his county salary won't matter, and meanwhile he is getting fees for all the ODIs he's playing. I presume players also get paid for being in the England squad? I'm not clear on this point.

He certainly should not be getting one for at least a year. It didn't do JA much good having one so young.
