Neatly sidestepping my first point! So how long is your beard, has it reached Jonty Panesaresque proportions?

My own beard shall go shortly. Now i've grown it, I've no idea what to do with it, other than the possibility of shaving my hair and growing a big bushy beard to look like a mentalist.

More than anything I believe yesterday's innings shows that Cook has a better mindset than quite a few of his peers in the England dressing room. Make no mistake, his time will come, but at the moment Cook's game is not entirely suited to one day cricket so to show the will to graft on and get a big score is a great achievement. Things would be easier for him if he had Trescothick at the other end but sadly that's not the case at the moment.

Although I'm not sure I quite agree with Derek Pringle's view that "Cook could be the new Strauss". He could be a lot better than that if he manages to work on his attacking game whilst still grinding runs out.

I thought it would have been obvious! I've been shavi ng since the age of 12 man! (Not that you would know that)

Yeah, it's probably similar to that, although probably not quite as long. It used to be more ginger (when I was younger) but now it's definitely the same colour as my hair with the odd bit of red, black, blonde and such thrown in.

Getting really frustrated with Cookie.. He's getting his 30's and 40's but not really going on apart from his first ODI hundred. Hope he can rectify that and score more hundreds in the ODI. He's good enough but his concentration is lacking once he gets to a decent score. And as a fan it's so annoying knowing he can score big runs but isnt. Come on Cookie lift your game.

Sachin Tendulkar scores a ODI century every 9.5 innings.
Alastair Cook scores a ODI century every 8 innings. Not too much of a worry just yet.

He's still a better bet than Strauss.

Don't think Cook has got much to worry about at the moment. He could do with a few more 50s, but he's yung and lernin at this form of the game. It's when he starts getting out for 10 or 15 that I'll worry more.

Yeah, he went to Bedford School, a couple of my mates went there, but not sure if it was at the same time though. He played for Bedfordshire at the same time as Monty I think...

One of my friend's dad's taught Monty at school though, and one of my old teachers played cricket with him too.

I'm still waiting to have taught some one who is famous. The closest I've got is an ex-student of mine made the final 12 of any dream will do.

That's really not very close at all, is it?

What are we going to do with my boy??? He's just scored 80 runs in the past 5 matches including 2 ducks Not ideal when you are opening the batting. His last 4 dismissals brought back nightmarish memories of the ashes - he's stiff front foot is causing him all sorts of problems. May be he should bat lower down the order if he cant handle the swinging ball.

Any suggestions?

If he went down the order he'd have to deal with spin. Cook doesn't 'do' spin. I'm still backing him at the top of the order. A few poor innings shouldn't really scare us. If I recall his latest dismissals have been from pretty decent deliveries.

He does have a habit of starting brightly and fading. He did it in the Ashes, getting a century then nothing much else.l.

Cook is an opener, no way should he move down the order. He'll just have to iron out the problems and hang in there.

Went 2nd ball to a top delivery, no disgrace there, just unfortunate.

Although he certainly got a century and nothing much else in the Ashes it wasn't at the start of the series.
