Erm...I got facebooked by one of the organisers, and got an invite as a thank you for all the ''hard'' work put in promoting Ali!

Oh, but some actually won a competition on their website.

I was going to ask you to come along, if my friend couldn't make it...honest.

Well, it's my go next time. There's a whole load of cricketers (and a whole load of nice young cricket-fans) out there who never knew how much they needed to meet me...

......
...and then we heard that they'd be leaving in five minutes and we still hadn't spoken to Ian! So we ran to the exit of the room to catch him as he left but no - he was already out of the room, had his hoody on and was walking off! We followed, as you do..but we lost him. He was nowhere to be seen. Why come and not socialise?!

Apart from the whole IRB thing - it was a fantastic night! We bumped into Ade Adepitan as well, he's lovely too. I've probably missed lots out, so if there's any questions - ask away!

p.s. No, I didn't get his number...the closest I got was an arm around the waist for the photo. Oh well!
Sounds as if you had a great night, EC. Sorry you didn't get to talk to Ian Bell, but please explain what you weren't impressed with - was it the girlfriend herself, or the fact that the girl he was with wasn't his fiancée, or just the fact that he spent all evening talking to her and not socialising with anyone else?

FBU has posted a pic on the Ian Bell thread, she looks vaguely like a girl I've seen him with before who I thought was the fiancée. If it isn't her then presumably he'll be in deep trouble.

How long did they stay for? Bearing in mind Fredalo night, I'm sure the management would take a dim view of the players being at a party and driniking (presumably) 30 hours before an important game (as they said last time).

I thought Michelle Fivefer was Bell's girlfriend.

Erm they definitely left before 11pm...but I didn't check my watch. They were all drinking water - pretty certain of that. The annoyance with IRB was how he turned up to this gathering and just hung around with this lady; he did speak to a few people for the first half hour...but then he disappeared. It doesn't bother me that he was with her - it's none of my business who he sees, but he could've talked to us fans - brought her along for a chat if he must!!!

Maybe she's very new in his life and he can't get enough of her.

There's a time and place! Even I didn't pick up a restraining order last night...

Oh and there's new videos up of Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson.

Well with what has been said on the other board about him being a bit up himself and allegedly spitting on a fan, plus your account of last night, I do hope that comparative success hasn't gone to Bell's head. He seems very focused on his cricket - well, has always been very intense about it, and has often said that he is only just beginning to feel that he deserves to be at the level he's at. It's strange if he has become a bit arrogant.

With Bell being from where I live there are a couple of stories going round that it has indeed gone to his head and that he is a complete sleaze bag, no idea how much it would affect his cricket (if indeed true) as that's the only thing I care about really.

Me too.

We seem to have got the topics of these two threads the wrong way round. But stories about Bell were circulating around the time he was dropped by Warwickshie for the FP semi-final. People were saying that he was coming back into the dressing room like the big I AM. Hard to say at the time if it was just sour grapes on some people's parts.

I liked the card trick. Alastair needs to update his bag of goodies. They couldn't do much with the stuff in it.

Well I'm sure lots of professional sportsmen go through phases like it, lets just hope he gets over it!

If arrogance is the price to pay for his recent form, than its a price worth paying IMHO. Since that second innings at the Oval, we've seen a more confident Bell and its resulting in him scoring more runs.

If Bell wasn't a pretty good cricketer, you'd imagine not that many ladies would take to him. You can't blame him for 'cashing' in on his relative celebrity status.
