The counties usually don't have a choice in the matter

That's the point of the EPP - country takes precedence over county. The game starts on 8th May - a week when there is a pretty full LVCC programme - plus a whole round of FPT games at the weekend which the players selected for The Lions will miss.

Sussex play two Friends Provideng games when this game is on. Hodd will obviously come in for Prior but Wright maybe harder to replace. I suspect Kirtley will probably come in for him assuming Lewry isn't fit again before then.

You're right. They have been changed. It was as if someone had just guessed them. I wish I had written them down now as they were so unbelievable.

You can contribute to the change yourself. Click on the number of stars you consider correct e.g. if you want to give three stars click the third star. Your own rating then appears on the right. When different people do this the total rating changes.

Oh thanks.
I suppose you can only do it once.

They are ratings for the photos, not the player. That is why Jimmy Anderson has more than one star.

He also wants to counter the problem of player burnout at the top level by sending England Lions, rather than the senior team, to play against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and in the ICC Champions Trophy.

This is the burnout experienced by the same players who can't wait to play more cricket for the IPL/ICL?

England Lions squad to be announced today.

Maybe it could be

Cook, Key, Strauss, Shah, Bopara, Rashid, Flintoff, Mustard, Tremlett, Harmison, Hoggard

all part of the Performance squad.

they cant put hoggard in for the lions! the man's taken enough slights on his honour as it is. cant see why they'd play cook either to be honest - carberry to open with key and both can compete with strauss for a shot at the not quite vacant openers slot.

Disappointed that Gidman did not get a shot, he's played okay for England A before, and Kirby what with the form he had towards the end of last season, and 4/39 vs MCC and 4/59 vs Derbyshire, 2/19 v Worcestershire in the One Day stuff so far this season.

Of course to balance it out, 0/25 in 7 overs vs Glamorgan and 0/55 nd Innings vs Derbyshire but he's been economical.

Both Cook and Hoggard have appeared in the Lions/England A fixture in the last two years.

Matt Prior (Sussex)
Graham Onions (Durham)
Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)
Owais Shah (Middlesex)
Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire)
Chris Tremlett (Hampshire)
Luke Wright (Sussex)

No real surprises there. What this means re Flintoff I'm not sure. Harmison seems to be nowhere near the selectors' thoughts

Look at the link in the 1st post, there's no sign of Kirby in that?

The Performance Squad is designed to have 30 players in it, but they decided only to use 26 and said that there was room for 4 more players based on county form. Kirby and Onions seem to be amongst those 4 at the moment
