I cannot believe a county of Notts size has had rubbish young batsmen in there academy for the last 10 years. Perhaps playing in the Academy / 2nd XI with no prospect of getting a prolonged run in the 1stXI when you are performing with confidence has a detremental effect, playing on club wickets against a tiflex ball cant be fun as recent scores have suggested, take a look at the scores when batting on a 1st class wicket.

Like I said it is because there hasn't been and isn't a glut of REALLY good batsmen coming through the age groups. Like many things it is a numbers game, the more that come through the better chance you have or producing 1 or 2 county quality batsman every few years. For whatever reason Notts seem to produce all rounders and bowlers.

Surely that should be a gut of talent?

And Samit was a major talent (as was Bilal at u19 level - he was one of the most dominant players at that level from what I recall).

Don't give up the day job, unless the day job is comedy, in which case give it up.

While being dominant at U19 is great it doesn't equate to County/Country success.

Louis Bhabra
Daniel Blatherwick
Hassan Chaudhry
Joey Evison
Lyndon James
Hishaam Khan
Hasnain Nazir
Reicko Parker-Cole
Liam Patterson-White
Anis Raza
Sam Routledge
Tim Wyatt

I think six of these are still eligible for the Under 17s next season.
To kind of prove my point the top 6 in today's U17 game against Wales contains one out and out batsman, one bowler who bats, a batsman who bowls, two bowlers who are batting in the top 6 because they can't bowl and a genuine all-rounder.

Hence why there hasn't been a score over the low 100s this season in both formats. Around the country there have been batsman who have racked up double and triple tons at this level. Top score today so far......53.

If you think one game is not a representative sample, the leading run scorer for all Notts Cricket Board sides (inc Academy) in 2016 so far is the all-rounder playing for the U17s today.

Therefore if the talent is not there you have to go and find it elsewhere.

I believe there was a match on yesterday and we were rather good. I know it's all a prelude to the inevitable home QF defeat but just thought I would mention it...

My cousin who drove wanted to leave when the rain came, so although I saw Lumb's fireworks, I'm pretty upset to have missed Christian going berserk. Grrr.

Another disgraceful performance with the bat yesterday then. If none of the 2nd XI players can do any better then they shouldn't be on the staff. Getting hammered by the team bottom of the League again, a tam who have barely any bowlers fit. Great job Newell, keep going.

Can't argue with that. Hants have won two matches this season-both against Notts.

No Edwards, Best, Wood, Ervine, Carberry, Vince yet they won comfortably. I feel sorry for Tahir-what's the point of having a legspinner when he has nothing to bowl at?

Where to start with this Notts season?

There definitely needs to be a culture change around the club, not just a few new faces.

Mick Newell has to answer to the endless list of questions about Notts' performances this season. As nice as he is, and it's easy to suspect the players like him because they can get away with murder, unfortunately the buck stops with him for how inept they've been. However, without wishing to drag personal relationships in to this, will the CEO sack him? I highly doubt it.

Notts now need to plan for next season, and this means sorting contracts quickly. A few weeks ago they were in for 1 or 2 out of Chopra, Stoneman and Borthwick. However the Hales saga has dragged on and whilst he has found lucrative offers from other counties, Derbyshire included, Notts haven't been able to compete for other targets. Time to make your minds up gents, otherwise there's no hope of securing better players for next year.

It's really easy to blame Newell though and not come up with an alternative. So who is there? Notts would need to consider whether Peter Moores' hands are clean in all this or whether he's been just as much to blame.

What we must remember is that the players are also culpable, good luck to whoever decides player of the season!

At this stage it's either Chris Read or Jake Ball with an honourable mention to Steven Mullaney. The sad fact that Mull gets a nod proves how mediocrity is saluted in an environment where the remainder are so poor. He might have had a good season by his standards but he's not excelled.

The predictable failure on Saturday should see the bell toll for some. Lumb has done little bar a storming start to the Royal London campaign. Greg Smith can count himself unlucky not to have played ahead of him on Saturday though it was never going to happen. It's Notts' middle overs bowling that got them so far, along with Riki Wessels and Dan Christian with a sprinkling of Andre Russell. The rest of the batting has been mediocre and the seam and swing bowling average. Such performances can win you short form games but get shown up in the longer form (Royal London) and then Championship.

There is a suggestion that Billy Root and Tom Moores are in the shake up for a place at Scarborough this week, lucky them. I'm sure if they fail they'll be dropped after one game and one of the old guard gets brought back in.

The only cricketing crumb of comfort I can offer is that 5 members of Notts' academy are representing The Midlands, in the Super 4s tournament this week at Loughborough.

More absolutely dire stuff from Notts at Scarborough. Yesterday we had them 51/6 but we let them get 282. Now we're 79/8. We're clearly guilty of concentrating too much on OD cricket while turning a blind eye to an imploding CC season. We consistently find ways to lose games that we shouldn't.

I've always defended Mick Newell, but it is hard to avoid the conclusion that there needs to be a change. Perhaps he should move/be reshuffled 'upstairs' in some way that allows Peter Moores to be clearly in charge of first team affairs.

94 All Out. Even the most optimistic Notts fan must realise that this season is over and we will be playing even more CC cricket next year in Div2.

Good work fellas.

Absolute disgrace. But hey, at least we have Hales for two more years so that's OK then.

We can't blame him for this, though. I his absence things have gone pear shaped. We've missed Hales and Taylor big time.

Problems not confined to the 1st team. 2s currently playing Leics 2s in a 3 day game and replying to Leics 1st innings score of 213, they scored 183 (5 x 0) and have Paul Franks coming in at 11 to thank for getting it to respectability.

George Dobell suggesting on Cricinfo that Peter Moores is likely to accept a bigger role at Notts next year.

Whether it's just conjecture or whether he actually knows something, I'm not sure.

The second innings capitulation was almost as good as the first's.

Most of the senior players seem to have lost interest.
