Plus, given the libel laws in the UK, they'd have to be pretty sure of themselves - although they haven't named names publically, the article implies they've given names to the ICC.

The extent of their claims border on unrealistic to achieve. IF anyone is involved however a lifetime ban isn't punishment enough. Beyond stupid to attempt to fix during an Ashes series.

Especially given how much these guys get paid.

I mean, in comparison Asif, Amir and Butt would have all been on a pittance.

I recall them saying that Bairstow was better than Moeen at batting with the tail, which is nonsense. We saw Moeen bat very patiently for a long period with Anderson, albeit in 2015.

Bayliss (if it was his idea) has some strange ideas about Moeen. For example, the stuff about him being more confident with the ball when recognised as only the second spinner.

Cook receives his 150th cap.

Could he be the only England test player never to have been dropped, ever?

Pretty incredible stat that. Even Bradman and Warne got dropped. Of Australians I can only think of Mark Waugh who played anywhere near as close to that many without being dropped.

The only time Cook seemed in any danger of being dropped -and of course this was probably only according to the fans and some pundits - was in the English Summer in 2010. He wasnt dropped, went to Australia 2010/11 and had an outstanding series.

Meanwhile, the toss has taken place; Root won and elected to bat. England team unchanged. Australia bring in Mitchell Marsh for Handscomb.

Good start for England, for all the criticism the last couple of weeks at least Root does one thing well as captain!

Yeah Aussie fans you can say thanks now!

It's an absolute corker of a batting deck. 400 looks par. Eng might struggle to get the 20 wickets on this though.

As i was saying, Cooks an embarrassment, did anybody see the guys face when he got out? hes got nothing, its clear his reflexes have dulled to the point that he cant face quality bowling, and hes not going to get any better, hes got no ticka either, hes a bloke in the opposition you know you never have to worry about, no doubt we relish him being in the English side, he makes them so much weaker.

Ive been around and captained my fair share of rugby and cricket in my time, i know toxic energy when i see it, he is one of the weak links in the chain.

I am completely dumbfounded at what English fans see in him as a man or player.

If theres nobody coming through and nobody grabbing the opportunity when they get there you need a total overhaul of your batting coaches and you need the right talent identification, somethings going very wrong.

The bowling is not the only difference between these teams, England lost the battle between the ears early on, they lack the desire, spring in the step, belief, the attitude between the two teams is huge, anybody who cant see the gap needs to look closer.

Cook walking out today to bat is really negative for the rest of his team mates, he sets a very poor tone as an opener for the confidence of the rest of your order.

Somebody always fills the void, somebody will put their hand up, he needs to go.

Bayliss needs to be sacked, hes absolutely not up to it.

Not his fault England can't find any decent home grown coaches after Moores ruined you (twice?)

England were actually looking quite positive and pretty well set there until Vince spoiled
it. I still think anything less than 400 will leave them at a first innings deficit though.

I think Stoneman has acquitted himself well this series. He can be aggressive and dour when necessary. Just needs to sort out his tactics to short bowling, but looks as if England have found a solid opener for the new few years at least. Might be worth giving Jennings another shot at it and punting Vince for Cook at no.3 for the near future.

As one of the commentators said when he got out "He was looking good with some lovely cover drives". I wonder how many more times we'll here that about Vince when he gets out for 20 odd...

Is Mmarsh classified as an 'all-rounder' because he's all-round bad at cricket?

I think you can classify England as an all-round team then, throwing it away in great batting conditions.

A nice pretty little 20 by Root. This is some seriously A-grade bowling by Hazelwood and Cummins though.
