Note that the top 3 haven't played in the IPL.

So lower sample sizes that need to be taken more with of a pinch of salt? Hmm, it pains me to say but I think you may have a point there.

We have 3 players in the 300 club. Two have retired. Will Bell make it? Now Broad is playing Tests only but he could in about 3 years. Cook no. Root (127) will make it if he is not worn out by then.

I remember a few years ago reading a stat that England are the only Test playing nation to have a player not play 200 ODIs for them.

You mean never having a player play 200 ODIs for them. Collingwood was 3 away and Anderson 6. Always chopping and changing players.

Jimmy has gone past Kapil Dev on the all time list of wicket takers to 6th. To make the top 5 he needs over 500.

I'm guessing he missed the word "not" out of his sentence in the first quote.

Fair play to him though by fronting it out instead of trying to edit the post to save face.

I like that kind of ballsy attitude.

Jimmy Anderson now has 20 test match 5fers, surprised this hasn't been mentioned already.

I'm surprised too knowing this board.

As with most of his statistics, an impressive milestone but doesn't look quite so great when you relate it to how many tests he's played (114) and those with similar or better achievements.

Donald finished with 20 from 72 tests, Botham with 27 from 102 and Herath has 23 from just 68. Hadlee had 36 from 86!

Slightly "behind" Anderson are Trueman and Underwood with 17 from 68 and 86 tests respectively.

No doubt a fine player and one of England's better bowlers, especially of the last 20 years but the really impressive achievement is that he's managed to be fit for so many matches

Steyn also has 25. Not surprised to see Herath have a higher rate of taking 5fers, good spinners tend to. Eg Swann 17/60, Monty 12/50.

yeah fair point. Relative strengths of the attacks make a difference too (although has been previously mentioned will has both a positive and negative effect on your individual hauls)
